Barbara´s fiend informed me that Barbara has passed away by sending me a letter.
(I replied to him, and hope he will be able to get my letter.)

I met Walt & Barbara when I volunteered at Mission Community Outreach Center as a college student in Spokane, and we have been good friends since then.

Barbara is my role model. Although I am currently living far from Spokane, whenever I encounter challenging situations in real life, I think about what Barbara would do to solve the problem if she were here.

Barbara had a positive attitude and loved people as they are. She will be deeply missed.

To Barbara's family and friends,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother and friend. My prayer is that your hearts will be comforted with the peace and presence of the Holy Spirit whom Christ has sent to be our Comforter and Counselor. Barbara was a friend of mine and an absolute HOOT! A brief friendship, but meaningful all the same. I met Barbara and Walt while working for EWU. I was blessed to assist Barbara to the Homecoming Game in 2022 as a guest in the President's Suite. While she was visiting with the president and others in the suite they asked Barb, "Well, how did you ever get into that big truck?" Barb shared something to the effect, well, I got one leg in and then he grabbed me by the butt and threw me in! She was very funny in her own right. I also had the absolute privilege of being Barbara's guest for 2023 EWU 1882 Awards when Barbara received her Alumni Philanthropist of the Year Award.

I was able to visit Barbara in the hospital twice, the first time she knew me, took my hand, I visited and I prayed with her. The second time was just hours before her passing. She was medicated and resting, I spoke to her and prayed. She was a sweet soul and though our friendship wasn't long, we shared a lot of laughs. She loved her family, friends unconditionally and most importantly Barbara knew and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am sure they are sharing some laughs. See you again sweet friend, much love.

Barbara shields has been a great long distance friend since my mom, Lillian Sandborn, died 17 years ago. Barbara and my mom were first cousins through her Dad , Walter's, Canadian side of the family. I was fortunate to visit her just before Christmas this year with my daughter Natasha and my husband Jonathan. Barbara was always so eager to learn, cheerful, and welcoming. She will be dearly missed
