1940 - 2026
Jun 7, 1940 - Jan 17, 2026
Carole Lynne Herrlinger, daughter of Roy and Adelia Olson, beloved wife, mother, and sister passed away on January 17, 2026.
Carole was born in Oakland, CA, and moved to Spokane at an early age. She graduated from North Central High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Whitworth College before becoming a schoolteacher at Longfellow Elementary. She met her husband Fred at a Salem Lutheran church social; the girls made sandwiches and the boys chose a sandwich not knowing which girl would come along with the picnic. Fred chose Carole that day. They were married in 1964.
After starting a family with Fred, she returned to work as an Avon representative, kindling many personal relationships with her customers. She continued selling Avon for over 40 years.
Carole was an active member at Messiah Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, participating in the church choir and worship service programs.
Carole was happiest at the Priest Lake family cabin, bringing everyone together with a stack of fresh pancakes.
Carole is survived by her husband Fred Herrlinger; sister Susan Haworth; brother David Olson; daughter Janet Herrlinger; son Thomas Herrlinger and his wife Anji Mertens; son Donald Herrlinger and his wife Claire Morgan Herrlinger; grandchildren Cairo and Hannah; and great-granddaughter Solace.
The family would like to thank Pine Ridge staff and Horizon Hospice for their care and support. A private celebration of life will be held for Carole.

Carole will be missed at our family gatherings. I praise Jesus that she is free of pain and suffering. May God comfort your hearts. "Blessed are those who mourn, they will be comforted". "God is close to the broken hearted". I commend you for the faithful, loving and wonderful care that you provided for Carole on her final journey. God bless you for that.
