Catherine KLINGEL Obituary

Catherine was renowned for her compassion, generosity, hospitality, and determination, with a deep and abiding love for God, family, and friends. Catherine was born in Baltimore, MD, in 1956, and took the rainbow bridge to heaven on March 5, 2023. She grew up in "West by God Virginia" in an amazing family with siblings Elizabeth, Cal & Susan. She often talked fondly of her delightful upbringing - you might say the All-American childhood. She met her husband, Barclay in Houston in 1981 and subsequently married in 1983. They moved to Philadelphia several years later, where their first son Barclay Jr. was born. A move to Spokane, WA, in 1990 was followed by the birth of their second son Chase in 1993. Barclay Jr. and his wife Makenna recently moved to Spokane along with their young children Rowan and Bodie, bringing much joy to Catherine, especially over the past six months. Chase has been living in Austin, TX for the past three years. Catherine attended Hollins College in Roanoke, VA for two years and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1978. Before moving to Spokane, she had a successful career in banking with Southern National Bank and Philadelphia National Bank, specializing in New Business Development and Trust Services. In reflection, Catherine marveled about how much Spokane meant to her joy-filled life, as her faith in Jesus Christ and many dear friendships blossomed. She especially loved the strong sense of community Spokane offered along with countless adventures at Priest Lake and of course following the Zags, as one of their more enthusiastic supporters. She wants to thank her church, her expansive community of friends, her volunteer organizations, and most of all her immediate and extended family. Please, no flowers. Instead, at her request make donations to Bite2Go through Second Harvest, All Hearts Infusion, and Christ Kitchen. Catherine's Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, located at 318 S Cedar St., in Spokane, at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, March 18. Childcare will be provided from 1:30-4:00 pm. Arrangements were entrusted to Hennessey Funeral Home.
