1955 - 2026
Craig was born on October 6, 1955, in Spokane, to Ronald W. and Margery E. Aubrey. He had one older brother (Clifford) and one younger brother (Keith).
He grew up on the north side of Spokane, in the Indian Trails neighborhood. His boyhood was filled with playing baseball, football and basketball, listening to LPs of the Beatles and other rock bands, and exploring the still-undeveloped Five Mile Hill. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1974.
Thanks to a helpful neighbor, Craig got his first job while still in high school, working in the mail room at the Spokesman-Review. He attended Spokane Falls Community College, graduating with his A.A. in 1976. He then passed the Postal Service exam, and worked as a mail sorter and inspector for over 40 years. He was also a beloved uncle to two nephews and two nieces, famous for getting down on the floor to play with the kids, and for getting them stirred up before bedtime.
Whether attending baseball games at the old Fairgrounds and the Kingdome, or watching March Madness, baseball and football on tv, Craig remained a sports fan all his life. He pitched for some years on a post office slow-pitch softball team, and this year was joyed to watch the Seahawks win another Super Bowl.
Craig was also a devoted walker. As a young man, he sometimes walked the five miles from downtown to home. He covered the north side of Spokane, and loved walking through Riverside State Park and Riverfront Park. As recently as last year, while his cancer was increasing, he was still taking walks through downtown and Riverfront.
Craig will be missed by many for his big heart and dry wit. If any wish to make a donation in his name, Craig's charity of choice had long been Second Harvest Food Bank.
