Deborah GODDARD Obituary

GODDARD, Deborah J.
(Age 68)

December 10, 1948 -
August 6, 2017

Leaving her family with deep sadness, yet some relief to see her suffering end, Deborah "Deb" Jane Goddard passed away peacefully on August 6, 2017 from complications from Dementia.
She is survived by many loved ones, including her parents Don and Shirlee Simonson, her daughter Jackey Starosky, and grandson Tyler Hansen, all of Spokane. Debbi also leaves behind sons Greg Starosky (Boston) Michael Starosky (Seattle) and grandchildren: Jillian, Finnbar and Declan Starosky. Born and raised in Spokane. Debbi graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1967. She went on to study at Central Washington University and then moved to Seattle to work at the NBC affiliate. It was in Seattle that she met and married her first husband, Michael Starosky (1944-2003) with whom she had her daughter Jaclyn Anne. During her marriage to Mike, Deb embraced her role as a mother to his sons, Greg and Michael. This is a role she held dear for the rest of her life. A true Spokane girl, Deb eventually moved back to her native city. She reconnected with an old sweetheart, Ron Goddard, (1945-2016) eventually marrying him in 1987. Together, Deb and Ron raised Jackey, whom they adored, and later they were instrumental in helping raise their grandson Tyler. A mother and grandmother first, Deb worked for FedEx for 20 plus years. She was known for her beautiful smile, having a positive outlook on life, genuine love for her family and friends and never judged a soul. A fan of rock-and-roll and jazz, Deb also enjoyed reading, movies, wine, friends, family and chocolate. She enjoyed family get togethers, especially when all of her children and grandchildren could make it to Spokane at the same time. Rarely do you meet someone who is beautiful from the inside out, but that was our Deb.
A Celebration of life for Deb and Ron will take place at Centerplace, 2426 N. Discovery Pl., Spokane Valley, WA 99216 on Sunday, September 17th at 6pm.

Deb was one of the strongest people I have ever met. I'm thankful to have been able to spend a couple months with her last year, she taught me so much and showed me what true compassion and love is. It saddens me to know she's gone, but I know she's at peace. She will always be in my heart. My heart goes out to everyone who is hurting in this time.

I'm shocked and saddened to hear about Deb. I worked at FedEx in Moses Lake and Deb was one of our dispatchers. I got to spend some time with her during that time and she was ALWAYS so sweet and helpful. We mostly spoke on the phone back then. She's crossed my mind from time to time over the years and I always wondered what she was up to.
She will be missed by many including me.
My heart goes out to her family and friends. (((((HUGS))))) to all.
