Gene and my older brother, Jack, were the ENTIRE graduation class of the two-room Glenrose Grade School in June of 1954. They both joked that Jack was the valedictorian and Gene was the salutatorian. (My brother, Jack, passed away about a year-and-half ago). Gene and his brother, Hank, both played the accordian, if memory serves. (Their little sister, who was my younger sister, Ione's, age, used to study dance, if memory, again, serves). Used to see Gene, Hank, and Sally Schafer waiting for the bus, down at the foot of Carnahan and Sprague, to take them out to Central Valley HS. (We'd wave at them from the window of our carpool, which would be on it's way from Dishman to Gonzaga Prep). Happened to bump into Gene a few years ago, in Olympia, when I was attending a wake for Bill Hill, Gene's brother-in-law at the time. Can't remember. May have seen Gene about 10 years ago when Paul Wham and his sister joined us for pizza when my brother, Jack, met us all at a Moran Prairie pizza parlor. We moved away from Glenrose Prarie in 1954, but we never forgot it, or the folks who made up that community.
All my mmories of Gene are positive.
Good hunting, Gene. Maybe we'll see you on the other side, undoubtedly still playing your accordian.

My family and the Peden family go way back to my very early childhood! We all attended Hillyard Church of God and were family! Gene and Kay had 2 very adorable little boys; Cary and Shawn! I babysat those stinkers often! When I think back on my growing up years, the Pedens were always a prominent part of my life! I went to high school with Kay´s brother, Don and we dated a bit! Gene and Henry´s mom, Georgia and my grandpa, Elmer Jeremiah, married each other after both had lost their spouses. So yes, the Pedens were always part of my life! Gene, you are in Heaven with your Savior now! Whole and celebrating with all who went before you! Tell my momma and daddy a loving hello Gene, and that one day I will join the glorious celebration with you all! Love Drusilla

Gene will be greatly missed, as an active member, bass singer, devoted elder, clever handyman, and mostly as a dear friend and mentor/brother in Christ.
We have been deeply blessed by Gene's presence in our church family. And, with tears of grief, we celebrate his having gone Home to Glory.
