Fay Anna ENGARD

ENGARD, Fay Anna January 14, 1920 - May 26, 2014 Born the middle daughter of Oscar Schumaker and Eva Brown in Republic, WA. Fay grew up on a farm in Troy, Idaho. She graduated from Troy High School in 1938 and moved to Spokane to attended Kinman Business College and later work for Frank Lilly, a mining statistician. She met Fredrick Lawrence Engard of Spokane, WA at a dance and was married in 1940. They bought a lot on Browne Street and built the house where they would live for over 70 years (the same house that Fay would continue to live in until a week before her death). She continued to work with mining attorneys, and during the war traveled with Fred from post to post doing secretarial work until he shipped overseas. Back home in Spokane she was the leader for her daughter's bluebird and campfire troupe, loved ceramics, gardening, and cooking and was famous for her twice baked potatoes, homemade ribs, macaroni and cheese and potato cake. She had an incredible green thumb and was able to keep orchids alive and blooming in her home for years. Her laugh was contagious and her love for her family abundant. She is survived by her daughter Pam and son-in-law David Forbush of Seattle; two granddaughters: Lesley Baker and Erin Forbush; and two great-grandsons, Callum and Euan. In honor of Fay's request there will be no memorial service, and in accordance with her and late husband's wishes there will be a celebration of life for Fred and Fay held at their family home on Saturday, July 26 from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 1234 E. Front St., Spokane, WA 99202. Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
