Fred MEYER Obituary

December 23, 1950 - August 31, 2021

Fred was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Erma Faye Hammonds. Faye met, then later married, Allen Meyer and they moved to California. Fred was a graduate of Magnolia High School Class of 1968 in Anaheim, CA.

Fred's passion for sales began at Zody's Department Store where he worked his way up from the Ready-Wear Dept to being the Store Manager. During his time at Zody's Fred met and married the love of his life, Gilda Cardoza. They just celebrated 42 years of marriage in March of this year.

Fred and Gilda moved to Spokane, WA in 1978 after falling in love with the area during a ski trip. Fred began his career at Oroweat as a relief driver and ended his 32 years there as a Regional Sales Manager. He really enjoyed his time there and made lifelong friendships.

After retiring from Oroweat, Fred continued his love for sales by dabbling in different ventures such as selling sunglasses at Bloomsday, Hoopfest and various fairs and festivals across the state. He and Gilda began selling their homemade salsa using Gilda's mother's recipe. The business flourished into what is now Mama Torrez Salsa.

Fred was a member of St. Thomas More Parrish where he was greatly involved. He previously taught CCD, was president of St. Vincent DePaul, was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Parrish Council.

Fred is preceded in death by his father Allen Meyer, his step father Gordon Sanford, his mother Faye Sanford, and his daughter in law Rachelle Cardoza. He is survived by his wife Gilda Meyer, his daughters Joddi Welch, Stefanie (Brian) Sisk and Cynthia (Rob) Grant. He is survived by his sons Christopher Cardoza and Rich (Chris) Meyer. Fred is also survived by his grandchildren Courtney, Leann, Rachel, Tommy, Jayden, Drake, Dru, Dayne, Sophia, Nathalie and Thomas.

Fred enjoyed owning race horses in the late 80's, golfing, tennis, being a dance dad, the Zags and his grandkids.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 12:30pm and will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane with inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Online tributes may be made at www.holycrossofspokane.org.
