George BIEBER Obituary

BIEBER, George N. (Age 97) George was born in Baker, OR on December 11, 1916 to George and Petra Bieber. He passed away September 8, 2014. George grew up on a small farm near Medical Springs, OR. As the oldest of thre children he was expected to help the family in maintain both the land and care of the animals. He was not especially fond of farm life and was quick to leave after graduation from Baker High School. He ventured to Oregon State College but after two years was forced to return home because of illness. George was quick to seek employment outside the farm and was hired as a warehouseman in a federal government warehouse specializing in aircraft parts and maintenance equipment. In August 1940, he married June Colton of Baker, OR. From this union sons Keith and Kent were born. Unfortunately this marriage became unstable and a divorce ensued in 1948. George's job brought him to Fairchild Air Force Base, and it was here that he met a co-worker Leila Mahoney, who would become his second wife. This marriage lasted for 63 years, until Leila's sudden and unexpected death. George was a life member of Audubon Park Masonic Lodge No. 1272. He especially enjoyed working in his yard, flower beds and hillside garden. He could always be seen early in the morning picking weeds from his flower beds. George and Leila, after retiring from Fairchild, both initially worked as real estate agents for Century 21. They both enjoyed traveling in their various RVs. After Leila's death, Dad's health began to decay until he could no longer reside at home. At that time he moved to ManorCare Heath Services here in Spokane. George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eloise and brother Orman. George is survived by his sons Keith and Kent (Diane); five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild at the time of his death. At his request there will be no services, and a memorial contribution in his honor is suggested to be given to the local American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff at ManorCare during the past 13 months.

I met George and his lovely wife Leila when they came to the Physical Therapy Ofc. where I worked. He was the kindest, gentleman I have ever met. He was devoted to his wife and they made such a lovely couple. I thought to myself that when he lost her he wouldn't stay with us much longer..... They are together again. God Bless them both.
