George Schmidt Obituary

SCHMIDT, George Paul "Papa"
SMSGT (Ret) (Age 74)

Born February 2nd 1937 in Canonsburg Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully December 19th 2011 at Holy Family Hospital with his family by his side.
George joined the United States Air Force in 1954 and retired after 26 years in 1980 as a Nuclear Weapons Supervisor: Specialist & Technician at Fairchild AFB. While still serving in the USAF, George attended night classes at Gonzaga University where he earned his Master's Degree in Human Resource Management.
Married Margarete Teusch on January 24th 1963, while stationed at Bitburg AFB in West Germany. They returned to Spokane with their two children in 1974, where they purchased their home in Nine Mile Falls.
After retiring from the USAF; he went on to dedicate 24 more years of his life to his work at the Washington State Department of Agriculture Weights & Measures Department as a Supervisor; finally retiring in 2007.
Known as Papa, George was a humble and giving man. His most prized possession was his family, to whom he gave everything, and took nothing. A charitable man who was a lifelong blood donor, George made it a priority to take care of everyone he knew. He spent his retired years with his family; he enjoyed feeding his birds, cooking and reading.
George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margarete; daughter Louise Bliss and her partner Glen "Doc" Williams; son Steven Schmidt; son-in-law Jim Bliss; only granddaughter Amanda Bliss and many friends.
There will be a Committal Service in mid-February TBA at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake where he will be interred and receive full military Honor Guard. Date and more information to follow.
Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society, 222 E. Francis Ave, Spokane, WA. (509) 795-5423

Margarete, Louise and Steven,

I am so sorry about the loss of George. I know he is in a better place, but our world will be lessor because of his loss. He was such a great guy, and could make me chuckle very easily. I know you will miss him so very much. God Bless your family!
