Gerald SHROPE Obituary

After a short illness Glenn passed away on December 14, 2023, to be reunited with the love of his life, Ila. He was born in 1926 to William and Grace Shrope in Seattle, Washington. He was the youngest of six (two sisters and four brothers). The two sisters passed away when very young. During the depression the family moved to Pullman, Washington, for work. He attended both Pullman grade school and high school. He participated in varsity high school sports (football, basketball and track & field) and graduated in June of 1944. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the Pacific (WWII) in the campaign to liberate the Philippine Islands. He returned home in 1946 and met Ila Byers of Spangle, Washington. They were married in 1947 and lived in Spokane Valley where they raised four children. He worked at various sales positions related to mechanical engineering products and made many friends. For Glenn, Ila and family came first and he loved and cared about both family and friends. Glenn and Ila enjoyed many summers at Bayview, ID, on Lake Pend Oreille as well as travel to Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. In their later years, they alternated their time between Yuma, AZ, and Spokane Valley. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ila, and daughter, Susan as well as his two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his children Steve (Linda), Gerry (Cindy) and Nancy Zimmerman (Jim), as well as 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life is planned for next spring.
