Grant MARR Obituary

December 26, 1946 - August 11, 2025

Kennewick - Grant Douglas Marr was born December 26, 1946, to Douglas and Charlotte Marr. They moved to Spokane when he was a toddler. Grant attended Finch Elementary, St. George's, and Shadle Park High School. After high school Grant served in the Navy for two years. After his military service Grant started college, beginning at Spokane Falls Community College. He transferred to WSU and graduated Summa Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from UW. Grant then began a successful career, and retiring from Bechtel in Richland. Grant's interests included dogs, cars, and the WSU Cougars. Grant was a dog lover his entire life. Most of his life he owned an eye-catching Corvette. He was also a die-hard WSU Cougar, and had football season tickets with his two sisters, also WSU grads, for over 30 years. If you had tickets in Section 26, you probably knew who he was. Grant was fortunate to have Pam Wilson as his loving partner these last years. He is survived by his sons, Brent Marr of Portland and John Vandervate of Yakima; daughter, Billie Sue Marr of Lakeland Village; and two sisters, Alison Barratt (Scott) of Lake Oswego Oregon, Carla Jones of Moscow Idaho. He is also survived by nephews, Ellis Barratt and Ben Jones; nieces, Brooke Olzendam, Shannon Nguyen, Katie Jones, and Charlotte Jones. We will all miss him dearly.

Earlier today

Grant was my supervisor at Bechtel from 2007 - 2008. He was a skilled Engineer and a wonderful boss, really a pleasure to work for. I am grateful to call Grant a friend, colleague, and mentor. He told me many great stories of his past and gave me rides in his Corvette. We worked really well together and got a lot done - but we also snuck out of work once to go look at vintage war planes at the Richland airport. After I changed groups we would meet at a Mexican restaurant every so often, just to catch up. He is a cherished part of my past and I will miss his perspective and advice. Fair winds and following seas Grant, thank you for everything and I'll see you at the finish line!

I was a neighbor of the Marr family as a kid. I would hang out with Grant's sisters Alison and Carla. When I think of Grant, I think about how much fun he had with his dog, Duke. They were always together. Sorry for your loss.

I am a retired Police Sergeant from Richland. Grant served as a Reserve Police Officer for several years. He was highly trusted and respected for his professional approach to law enforcement. We enjoyed his service to others, especially the expert testimony he was able to give on a couple important cases that involved his field. Rest is peace my friend.
