Helen BIGGERS Obituary

BIGGERS, Helen Hammond,

Helen Hammond Biggers led a life filled with service to her church, her community, and her family. Born in 1928 in Ventura, California Helen pursued a nursing career and as an RN had a lengthy career that included home care, surgical services, and pre-operative counseling. Active at several churches in California, she worked to provide food and shelter to the homeless and victims of abuse.

She and her husband Walter moved to Spokane in the 1990's and established membership at St. David's Episcopal church. They began volunteering and serving at St. David's immediately, and several years later – when most would be enjoying retirement, Helen began the coursework to be ordained as a Deacon. Though Helen had served for years in churches and in the community, the ordination was a formal acknowledgement of her commitment to her faith. The youngest in a family of Episcopal priests, Helen had longed desired to serve in an official capacity. Once ordained, she served at St David's until recent years during Sunday services and in delivering communion to members who were unable to attend church services.

Helen left us on May 26th. She leaves her children David Biggers (Terri), Karen LaDue (Charlie), Mark Biggers (Pat), Ann Thompson, and Laura Biggers (Scot) as well as a legacy of 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She was loved and will be missed by many. Services to celebrate Helen's life will be scheduled once Covid restrictions have been lifted.
