Helen Oakley Phillips, 88, formerly of Whitehall Ave. widow of the late Charles Bennett Phillips, died Thursday March 6, 2014 at NHC of Anderson.Born June 24, 1925 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Roy Furman and Decie Peace Oakley. She was a graduate of Anderson Girls High, Class of 1942, and Draughn's Business College. Mrs. Phillips was a paralegal for Francis Fant, Sr. and owner of Country Touch and More Antiques for many years. She attended Clearview Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Phillips was a wonderful mother and grandmother, loved life and always had a kind word for others. She had the ability to make others laugh, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was a beloved mother to her three girls: Anne Phillips Ouzts, Patti Phillips Mowlajko both of Anderson, and Pam Phillips Vaughn (Jack) of Pine Mountain, GA; and was a devoted grandmother to Jason Ouzts (Mary) of Tallahassee, FL, Lani Ouzts Gray (Joel) of Anderson, Sarah Britton Vaughn of Athens, GA, Blake and Clay Vaughn of LaGrange, GA, Molly Mowlajko Antinori (Joe) of Beaufort, SC and Dr. Andy Mowlajko of Anderson, and was especially proud of her great grandchildren Catherine and Lucy Gray, Ben and Drew Ouzts and Pete Antinori. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Pete Mowlajko and brothers, William, Bob, and Charles Ray Oakley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Silver Brook Cemetery with William R. West officiating. The family is at the home of daughter, Patti Mowlajko. Mrs. Phillips family would like to thank the staff at NHC Anderson Station 3 and Dr. Harry Geisberg for their compassionate care and devotion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welcome Baptist Church, P.O. Box 757, Sandy Springs, SC 29677, Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Rd., Anderson, SC 29621 or First Presbyterian Church, 302 W. Whitner St., Anderson, SC 29624.
