Ida HARMON Obituary
Ida Arlene Harmon, 88 years of life, passed away peacefully at home, on March 2, 2023, surrounded by family. Arlene was born in Porthill, ID, Bonners Ferry in 1935 on February 28 to John Harder, and Jessie (Churchill) Harder in a one-room log home. Very early in life, at two years old, she moved to Portland, Oregon. A Graduate of Roosevelt High School, St John's, OR, in 1954. Arlene met Richard (Dick) Harmon in her high school years. They married on Aug. 11, 1954. Everybody around them said, " they would never last; opposite sides of town". On their 67th anniversary of marriage, they recalled many fun times, and adventures, telling life stories together. They made a lifelong friendship. For a couple that would not make it, they are in heaven still together today. In the fall of 1964, Arlene moved to Greenacres, WA, with her husband Dick, and two sons, Mike and Ron, where Arlene and Dick resided for 59 years. Arlene was a homemaker, ran the house, did gardening, and canning, and raised her sons. She was an artist and taught art and painting. She worked various jobs outside of the home, as needed. Arlene had a love for sailing, she and dad would go for week-long trips, on their 21ft San Juan sailboat the "Sweet Pea". They were part of the Pacific Northwest San Juan 21 racing club. Sailed in races on Flat Head Lake, MT, Snake River, ID, and Puget Sound, WA, and all major lakes, and ports in between. She was 1st mate unless she removed Dick from the captain's chair if he was out late the night before race day. When on land she was a car connoisseur and part of the Ford club, and Convertible Club of Spokane. Throughout the years she showed her 58 little Nash Metropolitan, 63 Mercury Convertible, and 67 Mercury Cougar as she traded, bought, or sold along the way. Lady Luck with Arlene on board, land or sea. She would win! No Bingo hall or Casino even had a chance. Mom and dad in their leisure time, RV'ed the highways and byways of the Pacific Northwest and Canada. There were not many back roads they did not know. When lost they would just throw a stick taking a left or right. Mom found treasures in junk stores and antique shops. Great restaurants, making new friends along the way. A great love of Native American cultures, and history. She painted her adventures on canvas.
