Janet GORMAN Obituary

Janet Anne Gorman (Drometer), age 83 a resident of Spokane Valley, died on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Valley Hospital in Spokane Valley, Washington. Janet was born on April 30, 1940, in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of George N. and Lois M. (Haley) Drometer. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1958. She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing as an RN in 1961. Following graduation, Janet went to Washington to visit the World's Fair in Seattle, stopping in Spokane with her classmate where she met the love of her life, Donald T. Gorman. They married in 1965. Together they juggled life while raising four daughters with love, grace, and a lot of organization. Janet showed her caring and compassion for others in her career as an RN and as a devoted wife, sister, mother, and loyal friend. She was involved in and supportive of her entire family and friends as they were very important to her. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as reading, gardening, sunshine, eating garden-raised tomatoes, and her grandchildren. She was fiercely competitive and enjoyed supporting her beloved northwest sports teams. We will miss her love, support, her baking and are thankful for the memories we have of her. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lois Drometer; sister Mary Hernke, brothers John and Francis Drometer and sister and brother-in-laws Sheila Drometer and Robert (Bob) Shogren. Janet is survived by her Husband of 58 years, the love of her life, and her best friend, Don; their daughters: Michelle (Gorman) and son-in-law Steve Johnson and their children, Breann, Haley and Seth; Ann Gorman and son-in-law Joe Felice and their children Thalia and Nick; Christine Simmons (Gorman); Colleen Gorman and Buffalo Fiege, and sister Helen Shogren all of Spokane, WA; brother Bill Drometer of Greensboro, NC, brother in law Don Hernke of Cannon Falls, MN, sister in law Christi Drometer of Sparta, GA and many nieces and nephews. There will be a vigil and rosary service on Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m., with visitation from 6:30 - 7:00 p.m., and a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at 10 a.m. both at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Spokane Valley. The funeral mass will be live-streamed. Please click on the link below to watch on October 11 at 10 a.m. https://stmaryspokane.org/. Following refreshments in the church hall, the interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please eat some ice cream and think of Janet while doing so.
