Jerry was best coach I had. He knew the game. He understood people. He treated players with respect. He challenged us to grow. He was a leader who served. He lived his faith. I first knew him as a leader and coach at NBC camps in the mid-1970s. He coached a group of us on NBC's first international tour team to South America in the summer of 1977. We kept in touch, off and on, in the years that followed. And he visited my father & mother on occasion. I thought of him often in the last 40+ years. I plan to shoot a few free throws with him in heaven ... and thank him again for really believing in me during those years when I was trying to figure out what I believed in.

I always considered Jerry a kind friend and constant source of encouragement. I hold fond memories of our time working together at NBC and coaching together at Whitworth. I always felt believed in. My deepest condolences to his family.

Some of my best memories of Jerry were during our years of coaching basketball at Cheney. We took many, many trips throughout the Inland Empire to scout opponents for Coach Humphrey. Every trip included a stop for pie and coffee or tea at Marie Callender“s. During those many hours together, we shared countless stories about basketball, families, and our love of teaching and coaching young people. One coach at the state tournament actually asked me if we had his playbook! We must have done our job! Thank you for the memories.

It said to share a memory, but I have so many. From hanging out with my uncle Jerry at his beach house (the floor was always covered with sand) when I was little, to getting hit with the TV Guide every time I stood in front of the television while he was watching a game! Most of all, I remember a true man of God, a loving uncle, brother, father, son, grandpa and husband! So many looked up to him as I know I sure did. Fun memories of spending time with him and my mom and watching true love between a brother and sister. They always looked out for each other. He was an amazing man and he will forever be in my heart! He lived a life like no other and has experienced more awesome things than anyone could ever dream of. I have and always will look up to him and cherish him in my heart until we meet again. Love you Uncle!!!
