Joan GRIMES Obituary

February 14, 1958 – December 21, 2024

It is with the greatest sadness that our family shares the passing of a beautiful soul, a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed and held in our hearts forever.

Joan was born in Glendive Montana on Valentine's Day 1958, to Edward and Martha Hegel. Not long after, the family moved to Spokane, where Joan would become the oldest of five children. She loved recalling happy times growing up on the farm.

She attended Great Northern Grade School, Havermale Junior High, and graduated from North Central High School. She continued her education receiving an AA in Early Childhood Education.

Joan married her high school sweetheart, Roger Grimes on June 10th, 1978. Together, they welcomed three children, Brian, Brenda, and Stacy.

Joan's joy was being a mom. She loved every minute of it. She volunteered at their schools, was a Camp Fire leader, you name it, she did it for her kids. And then, there was "Grammy" Joan. Any wish they had, she'd do whatever she could to make it come true.

She had many friends, young, old, everyone loved Joan. She was kind, fun, and had a great sense of humor. She was welcoming to everyone.

She will be so missed. We find comfort that she's with her mom and dad in heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Roger Grimes; children, Brian Grimes, Brendan (James) Gulbranson, and Stacy Grimes; her beloved grandchildren, Jack, Jenna, Adi, Carter, Braelynn, Jessa, and Carson. Also, surviving their beloved sister, are Gerard Hegel, Carla (Bryan) Galbraith, John (Nancy) Hegel, and Paul (Diane) Hegel.

Please join us for a celebration of her life on January 18th, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located at 1104 W. Heroy Ave, Spokane, WA, 99205. Online memorial page can be found at www.holycrossofspokane.org

What an amazing woman! I met Joan in junior high and have great memories of her including the weekend I spent at her house, up early doing chores with her. Prayers for Roger and the family. A great loss. Joan lives on through her children and grandchildren.
