John WILLIAMS Obituary

John Joseph Williams

March 6, 1947 ~ August 3, 2021

John Joseph "Jack" Williams joined his sister, Denny Anne Murphy and his parents Dennis Joseph Williams and Clementine Louise Shanahan in heaven on August 3, 2021. Jack was born in Spokane, WA on March 6, 1947. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1966. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army, 1966-1969, he was a Vietnam Veteran. Following his military service, he attended Spokane Falls Community College and received a degree in business management; during this time he worked as a bartender at various bars in Spokane. Jack married Shirley Anne Ramm on February 17, 1973. Jack's dream was to own his own bar one day; on January 6, 1978 Jack and Shirley purchased Charley My Boy's, a tavern by the county courthouse, it did not take long for this little neighborhood bar to become a hangout for county employees, theatre folks and working-class people. Jack was known by his loyal customers as a fun-loving man with an amazing smile, the gift of gab, and a boisterous laugh. He was known to be kind and generous, and sarcastic. He made many lifelong friends during this time. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at Priest Lake on his boat 'Cheers!!' He also enjoyed playing weekly golf with his friends even though he was known as the "bad golfer." Jack enjoyed watching old Westerns and cop shows. Jack and Shirley operated Charley's together for nearly 44 years navigating many expansions and challenges. The current location at 801 North Monroe, will be permanently closed as a restaurant.

Jack is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley, their two daughters: Tara Marie Barto and her husband Steve; Jaclyn "Jackie" Louise Cosper and her husband, Johnny; four granddaughters: Morgan Anne Louise Barto (14), Millie Louise Cosper (13), Chloe Jane Cosper (11), Ashlynn Stevie Barto (10); his brother James C. "Jim" Williams and many nieces and nephews.

A private Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be scheduled at a later date. Rest in Peace Jack and enjoy "Cocktail Hour" with your family in heaven! CHEERS!!!
