Juanita HAGEL Obituary

A Life Well-Lived and Cherished

Juanita Elizabeth Hagel, affectionately known as "Wannie," gracefully departed from this world on August 22, surrounded by cherished loved ones. She was born on June 23, 1941, to Isabel and Leo Rohner, taking her place as the eldest among 12 siblings. Wannie's life was one rich with family, love, and a deep connection to the world around her.

Wannie's journey through life was defined by her role as a loving mother and matriarch. Alongside Dale Hagel Sr., she nurtured an expansive family of her own, raising 11 children - Dale Jr., Gary, Teri, Donny, Suzi, Cindy, Sam, Larry, Jerry, Bryant, and David. Her legacy extended even further, as she reveled in the joy of over 44 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

While family was paramount, Wannie's impact stretched beyond her immediate kin. A true visionary, she played a pivotal role in the establishment and success of "Hagel's House of Horror." This family-owned and operated haunted house became a staple in the West Plains area of Spokane, Washington, captivating hearts for over 25 Halloween seasons. Through this endeavor, Wannie not only showcased her creativity but also welcomed countless others into her extended family, inviting friends and community members to experience the warmth and camaraderie she held dear.

Wannie's passions were as diverse as the colors on an artist's palette. Her love for the outdoors drew her to the wilderness, where she relished the beauty of nature through hiking and exploration. The family's sanctuary in Northern Idaho's Priest Lake region served as a canvas for countless cherished memories. A testament to her creativity, Wannie immersed herself in the world of art, skillfully bringing her visions to life on canvases and other various items, often channeling the artistic spirit of Bob Ross.

The tapestry of Wannie's life was woven with the threads of companionship and partnership. For the past 29 years, she shared her journey with Doug Patterson, a loving partner who stood by her side and cared for her to the very end. Together, they embarked on an adventure of operating a family daycare, providing a nurturing haven for her grandchildren and beyond. "Wannie's House" was more than just a physical space; it was a sanctuary of warmth and acceptance. Friends and family who had the privilege of entering its doors were welcomed with open arms, leaving with cherished memories of the time spent with Wannie and Doug.

Wannie's departure leaves a void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Yet, her memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and boundless love. As we reflect upon her life, may we find solace in the legacy she leaves behind and the countless lives she enriched.
