Kathleen SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Kathleen "Kay" 1946 - 2013 Kay was born on September 26th, 1946 to Don and Betty MacPherson and grew up in the Hillyard neighborhood of Spokane where she attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and then graduated from Marycliff High School. As a young adult she worked several jobs, and attended art classes at SCC where she was introduced to Ronald Smith. After only a few months of courtship, Ron and Kay were married in a simple ceremony at St. Thomas Chapel in Coeur d'Alene in 1974. Later that year their first child was born, Michael Donald. Eleven months later, their daughter, Molly Jonine was the next and last addition to their family. Kay spent the next several years raising her two young children through grade school at her alma mater. An at-home mother until her children were teen agers, Kay got back into the workforce at St. Margaret's Hall, and then as a housekeeper and Nurse's Aid at Sacred Heart Hospital where she worked another 15 years. Kay's faith was the centerpiece to her life. Raised in the Catholic church, Kay spent many years in the St. Patricks's and St. Aloysius parishes of Spokane. In the early 1980s, Kay began attending church with many of her family members at Zion Christian Center where she worshipped the rest of her life. Involved in ladies Bible studies, volunteering in the kitchen, and various art and craft projects, nothing brought her more joy than worship. Kay's first grandson was born in 1999 and three more grandsons followed. Her "boys" as she called them, brought her a tremendous amount of joy. She LOVED being a grandmother. Granny would attend as many of their activities as she could and even at the end, she asked and wanted to see them the most. Kay battled non-Hodgkins lymphoma and beat it in 2008, only to have her heart weakened by the medicine. On September 24th, just two days short of her 67th birthday, Kay passed away to be with Jesus. Kay is survived by her husband Ron, her son Michael, daughter Molly, grandsons Nate, Austin, Jackson, and Lochlan as well as six sisters, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at Zion Christian Center at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 28th.

I am so sorry to hear that Kay has "earned her wings". She is now with the angels watching over all of us. Thoughts are with her family and friends.
