Kay PACHECO Obituary

Kay Ann Pacheco, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, was laid to rest at the age of 85. Born in Lorain, Ohio, she was the youngest of six children to Anne Hart and Donald Byron.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Colleen, Patricia, Pamela, Christine; her son, Keith; 12 beloved grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gabriel; and son, Michael.

Kay was married to Gabriel Christopher Pacheco, LtCol USAF, for 45 wonderful years until his passing in 2007. The couple met while Kay was attending nursing school and married on September 23, 1961. Over the course of 20 years, they lived in various locations across Europe and the United States during Gabriel's service, with their final military station at Fairchild Air Force Base before settling in Cheney, Washington.

Kay built a successful career in real estate, and it was during this time that she discovered a passion for Toastmasters. She quickly became a standout in the organization, winning over 40 awards for her humorous and captivating speeches. Her gift for storytelling brought joy to all who knew her.

Kay also found endless delight in the theater and was deeply involved with StageWest, a West Plains stage group. As a dedicated board member and director, she poured her heart into countless productions, sustaining the organization through her unwavering commitment.

Kay's adventurous spirit and love of life were evident in her many hobbies: traveling, playing board games with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and supporting her loved ones in any way she could. She touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Kay's life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2 PM, at Cheney Funeral Chapel, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I got to know Kay from our Spokane Valley Toastmasters club. So funny. Her evaluation of one of my speeches I believe started me on my path to a more inclusive less judgmental mindset.
