Kevin Robert Captain US Navy Retired KERRIGAN M.D.

Kevin was born to William Earnest and Ruth Roemer Kerrigan in Morris Town, New Jersey.

Kevin graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1972. He earned his medical degree from South Florida College of Medicine in 1975, followed by post-graduate training in surgery at Emory University and then completed his surgical residency at the Naval Medical Center (San Diego) in 1982. He was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Surgeons in 1985.

Kevin married Leslie Ann Williams on November 22, 1975. They had 5 sons, Sean Patrick, Kyle William, Ryan Michael, Ian Kevin, and Colin Robert. He served as a missionary surgeon in countries including: Ecuador, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Zambia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Iraq. Kevin developed significant surgical expertise, publishing articles on the treatment of snake bites and tropical diseases.

A scholar and life-long learner, he published two books on how God orchestrated his life and used him to further God's Family. Kevin taught many courses and received numerous awards including: three Navy Commendation medals, the American Medical Association's Dr. Nathan Davis Award (1997), and Notre Dame Alumni Association's Dr. Thomas Dooley Award (2019).

Kevin and Leslie moved to Spokane, WA, in 2007, working part time at Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. He volunteered for Moody Aviation and Peak 7 Adventures where he developed their Wilderness First Responder certification program. They enjoyed being members of Indian Trail Church.

Driven by his compassion for people and love of Christ, he was known for his witty sense of humor, kind heart, and soft-spoken manner.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie; his six siblings, Dennis, Eileen, Patti, Terry, Kathy, and Chris; and his five sons and families, Sean and Rachel (Caleb, Eli, Luke and Keziah); Kyle and Elyssa (Asher, Justus, Samara and Chloe); Ryan and Ame (Dane, Addie, Liam and Eloise); Ian and Lela (Megan, Cole, Tate, Jake, Zack and Gemma); Colin and Amy (Caden, Ella, Grace, Emily, Nolan and Gavin). That's right, 24 grandchildren!

A viewing will be Friday, January 24, from 2pm to 4pm, at Holy Cross Funeral Home, 7111 N. Division St.

A graveside service with military honors will be Saturday, January 25th, at 10am, at Fairmount Memorial Park. The memorial service will follow at 1pm, at Indian Trail Church, 9010 N. Indian Trail Rd., in Spokane.
