Larry BIGGS Obituary

September 7, 1934 - June 22, 2023

Larry Dennis Biggs passed away after a battle with cancer on June 22, 2023. He was born on September 7, 1934, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, WA, to Esther and Raymond Biggs. Larry graduated from North Central High school in 1952, he served in the Army as a combat engineer and construction surveyor from 1955-1957. Larry attended WSU from 1958-1960 and received his bachelor's degree in engineering.

Larry started his career at Bovay Northwest in 1961 where he worked alongside of his father Raymond, Larry retired as a Senior Vice-President in 1995, during his time there he worked on many projects all over the county. Larry was the project manager for the Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant for Spokane from 1972-76. That project was recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as one of the top five engineering achievements in the US that year. He worked on hundreds of projects for the city of Spokane including the Storm Sewer project and projects associated with Vera Water and Power in Spokane Valley.

Larry was never one to be idle, he assisted development of the engineering firm of Womar and Associates and worked with them until 2008. Larry worked until he passed, his latest endeavor was designing pole buildings to keep busy. For over a hundred years, Larry, his father and grandfather, all engineers, had made significant infrastructure contributions to the Pacific Northwest .

Larry was preceded in death by his father Raymond Biggs, his mother Esther Biggs and brother Robert. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Valeta, 4 children, Judith Biggs Peterson, Dennis Biggs , Brian Biggs, and Rachael Biggs, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and his younger siblings; Michael Biggs, Patricia Biggs Woodrow, and Terrance Biggs

Larry was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in a private ceremony and will have a private celebration of Life in October.
