Larry CARNEY Obituary

Larry Gordon Carney passed away on April 9, 2024, peacefully at home after enduring complications of diabetes.

He was born December 27, 1947, and lived his entire life in Spokane, graduating from John Rogers High in 1966.

After High School Larry began working for Winger Electric and trained as an outstanding electrician. He also worked for Kanter Electric and then for his brother, Rick at Electric Smith.

When Larry was hired on at Kaisers Aluminum Mead he worked as an electrician and joined the Steelworkers Union and worked until the strike and lock-out plant closure. He also worked for a time at Alliance Machine Systems.

He had a lifelong love of cars, hot rodding and drag racing, in particular at Deer Park Drag Strip and Raceway Park.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kristie; and son, Clint. Also, brothers, Rick and wife, Kathy, Dan and wife, Ruby; sister, Robin Schaffer and husband, Mike; and brother-in-law, Larry Beitlich and wife, Alvie; he is also survived by seven nieces and nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Louise and Bob Carney; and brother, Mick.

Larry was a gentle giant - not one for words, but interested in friends and family, nonetheless. He was a deep thinker and planned his projects meticulously in advance.

A remembrance will be held for Larry on Saturday, May 11 at the Eagles Aerie #2, 6410 N. Lidgerwood beginning at 1:00 pm. Please bring a potluck dish of your choice and share memories of Larry with us.

April 30, 2024

I am going back to the days of serving Larry, along with his brother's, and so very many friends that were all of my best friends, as well as customers while working at the Big Foot Tavern, as everyday was awesome as I waited for the boys to start rolling in after their graveyard shift, Larry would appear to be a bit feared by those who did not know him, but I was fortunate to have his presence almost everyday, always made me feel respected, with a huge heart, and kind words, could always make me laugh even if the joke was on me.(hahaha). Along with Larry making me feel secure if anything arose during my shift, all my Kaiser family followed suit. Couldn't have asked for a better job, as Larry, n the rest of the family made working a true joy. I will never forget you big guy, through all that beard n mustache always a twinkle in your eyes. Rest peacefully my friend, we will all meet again in the spirit in the sky. Prayers to all who were lucky enough to have known you. May the family n friends find peace somehow to celebrate the great joy Larry gave to us all. God bless.
