Larry and I were best friends 1948-1953. He was my first catcher when I pitched for Gonzaga High and, although he was younger, he was my godfather when I became a Catholic in 1953. He was a great athlete an we were like brothers at age 13 for me and 12 for him!

we are so very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved father. My older brother , Rollie Byrne, was very fortunate to play baseball for Mr. Koentopp at Gonzaga University. Rollie loved your dad and respected him so much, and truly respected him as a coach and a wonderful human being.
Please know our thought and prayers go out to you at this most difficult time.
Sincerly,
Dan Byrne, Colleen Byrne and Terry Byrne of Spokane Washington

My sympathies to the Koentopp family. Mr. Koentopp took professional sports to another level in 1983 when he introduced the Las Vegas Stars AAA team, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
As a longtime baseball fan, I was privileged to work with him and Don Logan on the Stars' advertising campaigns in 1983-84.
God Bless you, Larry, as you rejoice with the heavenly hosts.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

My sincerest condolences to all of Larry's family. He was a great friend and allowed me many opportunities. From being a photographer for the ballclub, to teaching me golf. As poorly as I played he always had patience. Charma and I had the pleasure of staying with Larry in California and he was always the consummate host. When I retired, and we have since moved to Alabama, golf is foremost in our daily activities. Thanks Larry
