Lois NESWICK Obituary

Lois was born July 3, 1926, to William and Nancy Noah in Colville, WA. She graduated from Colville High School in 1944 and subsequently earned a BA in Education from Eastern Washington University and a MA in English from the University of Washington.

Her first year teaching was for the West Valley School District. She then began work for Spokane School District #81, two years at North Central High School, then the remaining years at Ferris High School. She supervised the Summer School Program for the Spokane School District for seven years. She also was an Adjunct Instructor for Gonzaga University for ten years and was a board member of the Washington State Humanities Council for several years. She retired in 1988 from Ferris High School where she was Chairman of the English Department.

After her retirement, she enjoyed many years of community service work. She served on the boards of Spokane Interplayers Ensemble, Spokane Symphony Associates, Spokane Opera, and the Spokane Community College Foundation, where she chaired the scholarship committee. She also served as an art docent for both the Museum of Art and Culture and the Jundt Art Museum for ten years, as well as several other community projects. She retired from community service in 1997 to care for her gravely ill husband full-time.

She married Robert Neswick, a close friend since Junior High School, in 1954. They enjoyed many years of travel abroad as well as in this country. Many happy summers were spent out at their lakehouse on Coeur d'Alene Lake.

Robert preceded her in death in 2010 after a 14-year battle with dementia. Lois lost her beloved son Jerry in 1975. She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Gotham, May Gotham, Jocelyn Naff, and Lorraine Citkovich; and brother, Grandson Noah.

Lois is survived by a niece, Darci Gayda; nephews, Greg Citkovich and Verle Gotham; grand-nieces and nephews: Kaylan Martin, Brett Martin, John Teideman, Lacey Citkovich, and Jamie Citkovich.

Per her wishes, no public service will be held. Her ashes will be interred at Fairmount Memorial Park in a plot next to her husband's.

She was one of my favorite teachers. I was in her last class at Ferris. She was great.
