Lydia WALLACE Obituary
Lydia Erma Matilda Feddersen Helm Wallace was born February 13, 1920 in Havillah, Washington. She passed on to her heavenly home March 22, 2015. It has been said that life is not so much about your birth date and your death date but,It is so much more about the dash in between. Lydia surely made the most of her "dash". Lydia attended a one room school house in Havillah, Washington and was very proud of the fact she never missed a day of school all of her eight years of schooling. At the age of 14 she was told she had to go to work and work she did. Lydia was 95 years strong and she lived independently up until her passing. Lydia married Ben Helm in 1938, together they started a farm, tilled the soil and brought six children into their lives. Lydia was baptized, confirmed and was a member of Immanual Luthern Church in Havillah and Hope Luthern Chruch in Tonasket. She was involved in many church activities, Ortoha Camp Cook, Ladies Aid and was always willing to do any job. Being a widow in 1960 she married Raymond Wallace and raised many cattle. In 1985 they retired and moved to Tonasket and she began tending her beautiful flower, fruit and vegetable gardens. Even though they had moved to town Lydia's passion was still in the hills of Okanogan County on her many acres of property, eradicating weeds. The shovel she used, we joked should be bronzed as she wore the tip down to a nubbin. Lydia's greatest joy was having her grandchildren come over each summer for a week; where she could teach each one the fine art of pinochle, "crick" fishing and shooting "ground hogs" Grandma Lydia was a very good shot. Being a widow again she met a long time friend Bennie Griffth and had the joy of marriage until his death. Lydia moved to Spokane in 2010, She lived at Broadway Court Estates where she made many friends, Her joy in living in Spokane was being closer to her family. Lydia is survived by her youngest brother, Ted Feddersen (Elaine) of Omak; her older sister, Clara Sovitchi of California; her children: Steve Helm, Diane Gunning (Ted), Barbara Franson (Dale), Clifford Helm (Sandy), Ken Helm and Jeff Helm (Janet); 16 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren, one Great-Great-Grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
