Marcia TULLOSS

1930 - 2024

Spokane - Marcia Louise Tulloss (Weigelt), age 93, passed peacefully on the afternoon of April 10, 2024, her earthly life complete. She had a generous and kind soul full of love, compassion, and caring and spent much of her lifetime giving to those around her. Marcia came into this world on September 6, 1930, joining her brother, Loren, as the blessed and only daughter of Edna and Gus Weigelt. She grew up in Newport, Washington, where her family owned and operated a dry goods and grocery store. Winters were spent ice skating on local ponds, and summers were spent six miles away at Diamond Lake swimming and chasing butterflies, tadpoles, and dreams with her brother and their numerous cousins, all of whom she remained close to her entire life. She hosted an annual reunion/ potluck at the Diamond Lake cabin every Fourth of July for this ever-growing extended family with a large, impromptu family tree taped to the refrigerator so every generation could see where they fit in. Marcia graduated from Newport High School in 1948 as valedictorian and from Washington State University in 1952 with honors and a degree in biology. She treasured her time at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and stayed close to many of her sorority sisters her whole life. She went on to get a Master's Degree in Bacteriology from Ohio State University where she met a handsome engineer and WWII vet, Robert Tulloss. He became the eternal love of her life and future husband. She returned to Spokane and worked in the laboratory at Sacred Heart Hospital as a bacteriologist enjoying the challenge of solving tough cases. Later Marcia and Bob ran the successful Spokane Compressor Company where they became known for their knowledge and fair and generous business practices. Marcia, forever a Camp Fire girl, was an enthusiastic benefactor of Camp Fire and unofficial caretaker of Camp Dartlo. Many campers remember the fun of a lunchtime spent playing in the creek at Tulloss Lawn. The cornerstones of Marcia's life were her family, her friendships, her many pets, her love of gardening and the outdoors, and always helping those in need by any means possible. She was no-nonsense and practical in her approach to life, impeccably frugal, and always had wonderful stories of days past she would make time to tell visitors. Her house was full of personal "heirlooms" all with great sentimental and practical value to her but with no particular monetary value to anyone else. In Marcia's world, nothing should ever be thrown out simply because of age. She enjoyed trekking the mountains around Diamond Lake in the summer picking huckleberries, always using the same coffee can with a wire handle that she made in her youth and had used ever since because, "Well, why not? It still works perfectly!" and that sentiment pretty much summed up her attitude on everything in life. She was extremely sweet and will be missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, her cherished grandson, Ryan Hunt; her brother, and many friends, relatives, and beloved pets. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Shauvin (Rick); son, John Tulloss; grandson, Brandon Hunt and many friends that she viewed as family and much of her treasured extended family with the Weigelts, Herbisons, Moesers, and Vawters. One last family and friends reunion will be held in Marcia's honor at the Dartford Cemetery at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 17, where she will rejoin her husband Bob eternally in the family plot among the pines and wildflowers, near her picturesque Rivilla neighborhood and Dartford Creek.
