Marcus Olson Obituary

OLSON, Marcus C. Marcus C. Olson, 86, of 312 W. Hastings Road, Spokane, Washington died November 6, 2009 at Fairwood Northridge. He was born February 14, 1923 in Ironwood, Michigan to William and Tekla (Lindqist) Olson and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1941. Olson was a veteran of World War II; was drafted in December 1943; served as a staff sergeant and was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He joined the Masonic fraternity in 1947 and served in all positions in the lodge. Subsequently was a winner of the Grand Master's Achievement Award, was a life member, and a Worthy Patron of Eastern Star. After the service he moved west to Washington State and worked at Boeing in the Electrical Department; Korry Manufacturing and a number of other organizations doing various jobs in the field of engineering. In 1970 he moved to Quincy and worked for Quincy-Columbia Basin Irrigation District until retirement in 1985. He has been a resident of Fairwood Northridge for the past seven years. Surviving are nephew Maurice Olson Jr., Anaheim, CA, nieces Karen Olson (Eugene) Voss, Midlothian, VA, Lee Ann Olson (Rev. Peter) Bartlett, Onaway, MI, Deborah Olson (Rick) Read, Montecello, Ind., Carolyn Olson (Ric) Riniker, Platteville, WI, step-daughter Erlene (Walter) Grosvenor, Spokane, three step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. Olson was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years (Ruth Olson); brothers William E., Maurice R.J., George L. Olson; and sisters Jean M. in infancy, and Margaret O. Olson. A memorial service will be held at Fairwood Assisted Living, 312 W. Hastings, Spokane at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 15. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
