Nov 9, 2025
Marilyn Faye Hill (Carpenter), 87, lifelong resident of Spokane, Washington, passed away surrounded by her family on November 9, 2025.
She graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1956 and attended the Sacred Heart School of Nursing, completing her training in 1959. Marilyn cared for the ill and injured with compassion and dedication until her retirement in 2005.
Marilyn was a strong, independent, and loving woman who lived her life with grace, intelligence, and humor. She found joy in the simple things - tending her beautiful flower gardens, spending time with her loved ones, and getting lost in a good book. She had a sharp mind and a love for puzzles of all kinds, from crosswords and jigsaws to shouting answers at Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid Zags fan and loved her pets.
Her laughter, love of life, and endless curiosity made her a light to all who knew her. A woman of deep faith, Marilyn was a lifelong Catholic and member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she joyfully sang in the church choir. Her beautiful voice also graced the Sweet Adelines for many years, and one of her proudest moments was singing at Carnegie Hall in New York alongside her granddaughter, bringing harmony and happiness to countless people.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Tracey Ellsworth, Brenda Fullmer (Jim), Leslie Arthur, and Jill Walker (Randy); seven stepchildren, Kathy Knight, Kelly Hill, Patrick Hill (Karen), Chris Hill (Lisa), Shannon Dawson, Kevin Hill, and Robert Hill (LaRane); her sister, Melody Roberts (Perry); and brother-in-law, Brick Cortner. She had 36 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Hill; her parents, Clayton Eugene Carpenter and Dolores Carpenter; her sister, Gayle Cortner; her stepson, Scott Hill; and her granddaughter, Jessie Fullmer.
Her family and friends will remember her for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love - for the way she made every house feel like home, every garden bloom, and every song brighter.
A Rosary will be at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass and celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Spokane, WA, on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Holy Cross Cemetery.
