Marilyn JANS Obituary

It is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marilyn A. Jans, who left us on August 16, 2025, at the age of 89.

Marilyn was born on September 7, 1935, in Bessemer, Michigan to Gust and Alice Wiemeri. Marilyn was one of seven children raised in faith, determination and love. She graduated valedictorian from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing and married her high school sweetheart, Norman D. Crockett, shortly after. They made their home in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she raised three daughters with a

summer reading list in one hand and a homemade chocolate chip cookie in the other.

Marilyn returned to nursing as her daughters went to university. She held several nursing management roles at the University of Utah Medical Center, such as Head Nurse of the Neurological Critical Care Unit and, ultimately, Chief Nursing Officer.

Born and raised a Lutheran, Marilyn converted to Catholicism prior to her marriage to Donald L. Jans in 1990. A devout Christian her entire life, she taught and managed Sunday School, volunteered at Catholic Charities, and taught Catechism among many other roles.

Marilyn and her husband, Don, traveled the world as tourists and many times as servants of God with Hope4Kids, a faith-based organization. Together they carried medical supplies in their luggage to the neediest areas in the world such as Uganda and Bolivia. Ardent fans of the Gonzaga Basketball Team, Marilyn and Don had a perfect attendance record at both home and away games.

In addition to her role as the best mother, Marilyn competed in 5k races, was a fearless downhill skier, and an avid golfer. She also served as a Children's Docent at the Nevada Museum of Art.

Survivors include her daughters, Lori Burck (Adam), Katharine Ehmig (David), Pamela Crockett (Leslie); her former husband, Norman D. Crockett; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four brothers and sisters, Gladys Larson, Anne Wurfel (Ernest), Sharon Matrella (Richard), and Charles Wiemeri (Beverly).

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald L. Jans, her sister, Helen Ademino, and brother, John Wiemeri.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 2, at 12:00 pm at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes in Spokane, the Very Rev. Darrin Connall, VG officiating.

Burial will follow at the Edwall Cemetery in Edwall, Washington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope4kidsinternational.org in lieu of flowers.
