Mary PICHETTE Obituary

Mary Rose Pichette, of Spokane, Washington, passed peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024, one month shy of her 102nd birthday. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Albert Pichette, her brother, Joe Cozza, and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Pichette.

Mary is survived by her five children Tom and wife Beverly, Jim, Pete and wife Lori, Starleen and husband Christopher, Luke and wife Bev, as well as 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was a life-long native of Spokane, born here in 1923, and graduating from North Central high school in 1942. Mary was the daughter of Sarafina and Peter, who were first generation Italian-Americans who settled in Spokane in 1921.

Mary and Albert met in 1942 at Natatorium Park at a dance for military soldiers, and were married later that same year. Albert served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, while Mary commenced raising their first two children.

Upon Albert's honorable discharge and return home from the war in 1945, their family grew to five children. While Albert began a career at the Kaiser Aluminum plant, Mary was a homemaker and the matron of the family. Later, Mary ventured out into the work world to waitress at Luigi's, and the Ridpath Hotel, and worked in sales at the downtown Crescent department store.

Mary was also very active in community work, including as an elections volunteer and a volunteer worker supporting Spokane's Bloomsday run. Mary was also an avid reader, crossword puzzler, and Bingo player and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Mary loved her family dearly and was especially fond of her wealth of grandchildren.

Mary was a member of the St Andrew's Episcopal Church and in her final months found solace in her faith. She regularly read the Bible to draw spiritual strength.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, at 2404 N. Howard St., Spokane, followed by a reception at the church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
