Mary SPROW Obituary

SPROW, Mary Alice November 6, 1912 - November 11, 2015 (Age 103) Mary Alice (Stimson) Sprow and Bert (Earnie) Sprow met and married in Shelby, OH and enjoyed 70 years of life together. In 1945, they moved to Opportunity, WA where they raised a family built upon strong bonds of love and compassion for each other and the community. Indeed, Mary Alice considered the cohesion of her extended family her greatest accomplishment. Her life had a profound impact on four generations of a multicultural family and a community beyond the borders of her hometown. Her capacity to love and nurture extended to 11 international students through the Rotary Exchange Program. She was a longtime member of Rotary International and received its highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellow Award. She also served on the Spokane Valley YMCA Board for many years, and was active in the Republican Party. Mary Alice passed away, at her home, shortly after celebrating her 103rd birthday with her family. She is survived by daughters: Anne Petersen, Ruth Roberts, Joan Ojerio, Sylvia Riddle, Lupe Wehr, and son James Sprow; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and nieces: Nancy Stimson, Paula Scott and Amy Fox. Memorial donations may be given to Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E Main Ave, Spokane Valley, WA 99206, Spokane Valley Rotary Foundation, PO Box 14192, Spokane Valley, WA 99214, or charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank caregivers Ruth, Deb, Chris and Duwett. A private memorial service is planned.

Dear family of Mary,
I was honored to get to meet and interview both Ernie and Mary as I was recording Valley history and stories of residents! What a wonderful long life your Mary had! May memories be a blessing at this time of loss.
