Nancy HAYS Obituary

Nancy Jean Hays was born August 25, 1931, in Spokane, Washington, and passed away May 3, 2022, in her home of 65 years in the Spokane Valley.

Nancy was the 6th of 12 children born to Della and Harold Hunt. She grew up in the areas of Glenrose, Valleyford, Opportunity, and Rockford, graduating from Rockford High School in 1948. She was married to Ervin Hood for 28 years and to Joe Hays for 38 years. Through the years, she had worked at Leo's Studio, was a bookkeeper for Northwest Masonry, and worked at Peter's hardware, and ISC. Her most beloved occupation was as a homemaker and Grandma. Nancy was a talented gardener and was known for her flowers, especially her roses. She was very involved in the many programs and fellowships of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.

She is survived by her husband Joe Hays, and children Dave (Tammie), Kathy (Jeff), Carolyn (Karl), and Sheryl (Bob). 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 1 sister Susan Stumbough, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will take place May 20th at 2:30 at Pines Cemetery, 1402 S Pines in Spokane Valley with a gathering of remembrance to follow at VFW Post 1435, 212 S David, Spokane Valley. Please consider making the world a prettier place by planting flowers in Nancy's honor.
