Norman Probst Obituary

PROBST, Norman Otto 1920 2009 On a crisp fall morning, October 24, 2009, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather completed his journey through life. Norman was born in Corvallis, Oregon to Rev. E.J.A. and Clara Probst on December 8, 1920. He was the third of eight children. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Wenatchee, WA where his father accepted the position of Pastor at St Paul's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in June 1938. He served his country proudly during World War II from October 1942 to January 1946 with the Combat Engineers 3rd Army. While in the army he served during the Battle of the Bulge under the command of General George Patton. Upon returning to Wenatchee, he began working as an apprentice for the Wenatchee Daily World. On October 14, 1949 he married Gloria Peters and together they had five children. They moved to Spokane in 1954 where he began working for Cowles Publishing. He retired after 28 years with the company. Norman was a devout Lutheran and was a Charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and served on the Spokane Lutheran School Board. The greatest love was his family. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gloria, and children, David (Diana) Thundereagle; Kevin (Sally) Probst; Kimberley (Gerald) Rand; Randy (Stacie) Probst and Jill Lewellen, 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Mildred and Ardis, his brothers, Walter, Alwin (passed away Oct. 27, 2009), Gilbert, Oscar and Vernon. Visitation will be Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 NORTH MONROE STREET, SPOKANE, WA. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W. Rowan Ave, Spokane on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 1pm. Following the memorial a Niche side Military Service will be held at the Fairmont Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley in Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W Rowan Ave. Spokane, WA. 99205.
