Patrick CAREY Obituary

July 1, 1947 - November 11, 2024

Moscow - Patrick Paul Carey was born July 1, 1947, in Renton WA. He died peacefully in his home on November 11, 2024. In recent years, Pat bravely faced the challenges of Dementia, which gradually took him from his family.

He graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1966. He enjoyed many sports such as baseball and boxing. He had a lifelong love for golf, Seahawks, and the Huskies. He loved his family, a good steak dinner, and his two sons, Paul (2007) and Shawn Carey. He had a lifelong career working in the grocery store business in management, until his retirement in 2013.

He spent many years enjoying his "golf den" while watching all kinds of sports. On occasion, family would catch him singing "Shania Twain" hits. Family all have witnessed his enthusiastic interest and love for music and using his "Emergency Break" when parking no matter, the incline of the street.

He was married to his wife, Toni Carey, for over 40 years. Although they divorced later in life, they remained good friends and still loved each other. They both helped raise a total combination of four sons and one daughter together. They enjoyed many spring/summer vacation trips to "Palm Springs" where family joined them on many trips. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church for several decades. He was a Eucharistic minister and also a member of the men's group that attended many funerals. After retiring in 2013, he enjoyed volunteer work with Catholic Charities where he drove a van to help feed the homeless. His most proud accomplishment was when he swung a *hole-in-one* while golfing on his 70th birthday.

His parents preceded him in death, Paul Clarence Carey (2001) and Kay Kathryn Alberta (Terry) Carey (1997).

Family holds it dear to their hearts that he was greeted by family members when he entered heaven, and know it was a glorious reunion with his late son, Paul Carey. He is survived by his son, Shawn (Candi) Carey; stepsons, Ryan (Angela) Largent and Dave (Lori) Largent; stepdaughter, Tina Largent; sister, Sharon; and daughter-in-law, Ros Carey. Also, he is survived by grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Shawn Jr., Crissy, Patrick, Natalie, Alexa, and Ben Carey. In addition, grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew VanLeuven, Rylee, Anthony, Lauren, and Alexa Largent, Ashley (Ty) Mattinson, and Taylor (Mikko) Keranan. As well as three great-grandchildren, Brooks, Madden, and Lennon.

In lieu of flowers, family is asking to consider donating to your local hospice foundation. Pat's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Please think of him when you think of the famous "Irish blessing."

There will be a celebration of life mass and reception at Assumption Catholic Church at a later date TBD.

My deepest sympathies to Pat's family. I was on his Wednesday golf league team and witnessed his HIO on his birthday (and took this photo). A super nice guy who loved his family. Rest in Peace Pat!

So sorry to hear about the loss of such a good person and friend. Pat taught me a lot about life and how special and lucky I was to know him and work with him!
Sending lots of prayers and hugs to his family and friends. Muriel
