Patrick STARE Obituary

Patrick Stephen Stare passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2025. Born in Spokane, Washington, on September 24, 1957 to Virginia and Edwin Stare, Pat spent his early years enjoying time at Priest Lake, skiing at Mt. Spokane and working on his family's classic cars with his dad. He still has both cars that they restored together - a 1956 Ford Thunderbird and a 1968 Ford Mustang - and we have many fond memories as a family riding around Dallas on the weekends. Pat graduated from North Central High School in 1975, and Washington State University in 1980, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He has many fond memories of time spent with his fraternity brothers in the Palouse.

He had a long, successful career as a real estate development executive at Hines, joining first in Spokane and then relocating to Dallas in 1981. Early in his career, he earned his Master of Business Administration in real estate finance. Over his 35+ years as a developer he built some of the most iconic hotels, shopping centers, office towers and ski resorts in the country. Something that meant a lot to his children was hearing younger colleagues say that they wanted to emulate him, and that they remember early in their careers that he took the time to mentor them when many others in his position would not have. His group of friends were one-of-a-kind, and they enjoyed many fun ski trips together across Vail, Tahoe and Steamboat, as well as attending Super Bowls, National Championships, numerous golf tournaments, and any other good times they could plan together.

He was most proud, though, of raising his two beloved children, Stephanie and Cameron with their mother, Nancy, to whom he was married 27 years. He loved coaching their sports teams and never missed a single one of their games, performances, recitals or school events. He was also actively involved with Boy Scouts and helped Cameron reach the rank of Eagle Scout, which is a proud accomplishment for both of them. He was very proud of the St. Rita, Ursuline and Jesuit communities in which he raised his children. Some of his fondest memories were attending Parents' Weekends, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon Dad's Weekends and Longhorn games at The University of Texas at Austin, where both of his children attended.

A special place to the Stare family is Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where they spent every summer together, as the generation before them had. He was also an incredible skier, having grown up near the mountains. He taught Stephanie and Cameron to ski as soon as they were old enough to put on skis, and they took to it instantly. It was a love shared by the whole family and they spent many family vacations skiing together all over the country trying to emulate his perfect mogul lines. He had many hobbies and was fortunate to have been able to spend time enjoying them in retirement. He was an incredible golfer, an extremely talented builder, carpenter, architect, college football fan, and car enthusiast.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie, his son Cameron and daughter-in-law Megan, and his grandchild on the way. Cam and Megan were married last year, and it was one of the happiest days of his life. No one knew it at the time, but our last time together was spent just a couple of weeks before his passing at our beach house in South Carolina, where Cameron and Megan shared the news that he would soon be a grandfather. Our hearts ache that he won't be with us for these incredible life moments, but we know he is always with us.

He is also survived by his great uncle Gerald Polich, his first wife of 27 years, Nancy, as well as Lois Ford, whom he married later in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents Virginia Polich and Ed Stare, his step-mother Rose Marie Stare, and mother-in-law Pauline Hodges.

Pat and his family were long time members of St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas, where his children attended school. A celebration of life will be held there at a date to be determined with a reception to follow. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Ursuline Academy of Dallas Endowment or the Jesuit College Preparatory Endowment, where he enjoyed spending time on the building committee, making both campuses best-in-class.

He will be sorely missed, but his sense of humor, pragmatism and work ethic live on through his children.

I am so sorry Stephanie, Cameron and Nancy. I have fun memories hanging out with Pat at the Boy Scout meetings. He was so proud of Cameron and all his sports activities and he loved watching Stephanie cheer, just to name a couple of things I remember watching him enjoy.

I was so saddened to hear about Pat´s passing. My last memory of him was from afar during a Christmas carriage ride through Highland Park. At first, I was simply admiring how joyful a grandfather looked with his grandsons and his wife, only to realize it was Pat, a friend I hadn´t seen in years. It truly warmed my heart to see him so happy in that moment. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family during this time.

I was shocked and sorry to hear about Pat. It was totally unexpected. When we were neighbors I spent a lot of time with Pat. I have fond memories of him building an incredible dollhouse for Stephanie in our garage so she would be surprised. He cared deeply about his children and family. I remember spending many holidays with him and the family. I will miss the many conversations and good times we had together.
