Paul BERGMAN Obituary

August 31, 1937 - January 9, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul "Dick" Richard Bergman Sr. on January 9, 2025, at the age of 87. Dick was born on August 31, 1937, to John and Alice Bergman in Spokane, WA.

Dick graduated from West Valley High School in 1955 and married Joyce Manz on October 17, 1959. Together, they raised two sons, Paul Jr. and Jim, in the West Valley community, where they were deeply involved in the lives of their children and grandchildren. Their active participation in the community included supporting many sporting events. Their devotion extended to their grandchildren's activities as well.

Dick worked in the bearing industry for many years, establishing lasting connections. He was a lifetime member of the Spokane Gun Club where he spent many hours with his sons and grandsons trap and skeet shooting. He was a familiar face on his daily drives, with his first stop at the Skyway Café at Felts Field for coffee. There, he would meet up with his brother John and other regulars to "shoot the breeze".

Dick is survived by his sons, Paul and Jim; and daughters-in-law, Sandy and Connie. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Kelsey (Dom), Olivia, Billy, Brady (Faythe), and Carter (Sierra); his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Caleb, Leo, Parker and Wesley; his brother, John Bergman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Though he was gruff on the outside, Dick had the biggest heart on the inside. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he would do anything for them.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cozy Place Adult Family Home for the wonderful care they gave Grandpa Dick.

A private family graveside service will be held at Pines Cemetery on April 18, 2025, where Dick will be reunited with Joyce and laid to rest together. Then after, please join the family at Darcy's Restaurant and Spirits, E.10502 Sprague Ave. Spokane Valley, 3-5pm. Feel free to wear orange and black, "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle".

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The West Valley Invest Ed Program or The National Fragile X Foundation at fragilex.org

I spent many summers at my grandparent´s house swimming in their pool. We had numerous bbq´s and celebrated pretty much every holiday together. My grandpa was always watching out for his grandkids and showing off our school pics to his friends. It wasn´t hard to tell that he was always very proud of his grandkids and everything we accomplished in life. I remember my grandpa always disappearing while I visited them and he could always be found outside checking my car´s oil and cleaning my windows. I am truly thankful I had a grandpa like him. As it said in the obituary, he was a gruff man. But loved his family so deeply!

I am sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I met him long when I worked with his wife, Joyce at Orchard Center Elementary. May you find peace and comfort through fond memories.
