Paul TOWN Obituary

Paul W. "Bill" Town, 91, passed away on June 2nd, 2024, at the Spokane Veterans Home in Spokane, Washington. Bill was born on June 19th, 1927, to Karl and Anna Town in Lewistown, Montana, the 3rd of seven children. He graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington, in 1945.

Bill served in the Marine Corp in WWII. He was also called-up during the Korean War and spent most of this time teaching combat and firearms skills training to young, Boot Camp Marines at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, California.

During this time, he became involved with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Union, and he served as President of the CWA for 15 years. Bill retired from the telephone company in 1983.

After his retirement, Bill volunteered for the Spokane Police Department for 28 years. He also belonged to the Spokane Marine Corp League, where he served as Chaplain for 28 years. Bill was an avid hunter his entire life, and he provided an abundance of elk, deer, bear, and game bird dinners for his family.

Bill is survived by his three children, Allyson (Ken) Morrison, Bill (Mary) Town, and Dawn Carlson; sister, Betty (Art) Shindelle; brother, Robert Town; four grandchildren, Caprice Morrison, Terri (Dustin) Murphy, LeAnn (Chris) Boscoe, and Ajia Town; and 14 great-grandchildren.

My Husband Kay and I were active members of the Melvin M Smith Detachment, Marine Corps League. He was a good friend, excellent caring Chaplain, and great to work with on any committee. God called a "good one" to work for Him on future supreme assignments. Bill had a long and fruitful busy life and an honor to serve with him on community in the "League".

Bill was a fantastic chaplain to the Marine Corps League. He was dedicated beyond my ability to express it. Talk about "above and beyond," that was Bill. He volunteered for every breakfast, came to Devil Dog events, and Marine Corps balls. I asked him to dance once. He was offended, and explained "I married my wonderful wife, and she's the ONLY person I'll dance with." He was a wonderful man.

I worked with Bill when he would volunteer at the Records unit keeping people in line at the Public Window. We absolutely loved Bill. My sincerest condolences to his Family, may he rest in peace!

Bill was a dedicated volunteer to the Spokane Police Department. He donated thousands of hours. Bill performed funeral services for more than one of his fellow SPD volunteers. Bill was always one of the first volunteers to arrive and one of the last to leave each day. He was a true blessing to SPD; never turning down an opportunity to fill in where he was needed. He will be deeply missed.

My sincere condolences to the Town family during this time. I went to school with Dawn and always remember walking by the house on the way to Cooper and her Dad being so nice.
