Philip BROWER Obituary

July 19, 1951 - December 19, 2024

Chimacum - Phil Brower, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his Chimacum, WA, home on December 19th at the age of 73, with his wife, Sherry, by his side.

Born and raised in Spokane, WA, Phil was the son of Roberta and Kenneth Brower. Kenneth passed away when Phil was 2 years old and Phil was raised by Roberta "Bobbie" and Eugene "Gene" Yamaura, along with siblings Cliff, Rick, Dori, and De. Phil's warmth, friendship, and respect for others reflected his multi-cultural upbringing and Bobbie and Gene's gracious love for all. Phil always greeted you with a warm smile and genuine interest.

Phil graduated from Lewis and Clark H.S. in 1969 and went on to pursue his degree in Commercial Arts. He was an entrepreneur and leader, who took great pride in his team and their work at Western Color Graphics, his business for over 20 years. He was savvy and understood how technology was advancing to assist pre-press color separating. He invested in the right people and equipment and was highly successful supporting artwork for books, magazines and advertisements throughout the Spokane region. He spent the latter part of his career working in real estate in the Inland Northwest.

Phil was proud of his nearly 25-year volunteer association with the El Katif Shriners Hospital. As a member of the Parade Animal Unit, he delighted in dressing up as a tiger, bringing joy and smiles to countless children at parades, community events, and the hospital. Phil cherished his long-time participation in Spokane's annual Bloomsday run. Nearly a 'Perennial', he has T-shirts from 1981 through 2024 and loved the tradition of walking with his family. He shared this passion with his late former wife Nancy, who passed away in 1996.

In retirement, Phil and Sherry have enjoyed exploring North America in their RV, fishing, hiking, and sight-seeing while connecting with friends and family. Phil liked sharing their adventures, tips, and tricks to fellow RV'ers on YouTube. He could fix anything and over his lifetime enjoyed collecting and 'tinkering' with hot rods, cars, boats, RVs, fishing gear and more.

Phil's life was a testament to creativity, love, and kindness and his legacy lives on in the family he adored and numerous friends he held dear. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his siblings, Cliff (Monica) Brower, Rick Yamaura, Dori (Aki) Kato, De (Matt) Yamaura, and Lynn Nagai; his children, Alice (Jack) Dodge, Mark (Cindy) Brower, Leianne (Robb) Raymond, Brian Vincent, Rebecca (Ben) Dewar, Marlene (Jim) Godsey, and Rahana Bear. He absolutely doted over his grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, Evan, Graham, Christian, Noah, Calvin, Mitchell, Meredith, Eowyn, Remmington, and Serenity.

The family is planning a celebration of life in July 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Spokane via the lovetotherescue.org donation site.

We came to know Phil and Sherry as AirBnB guests at their home in Post Falls almost 10 years ago. As our friendship evolved beyond guests, we spent many times together cycling, sharing meals, travelling in Ford pickups, RVing and camping, wistfully ogling old cars, and spending countless hours together throughout Alberta, Washington, Idaho and Arizona.

He was like a brother in many respects, and our love for he and Sherry and our shared memories will always be fondly remembered.

I went to L.C. together and graduated together. I remember Phil and I working on our classic cars together. We re-built carborators, put headers on our cars. You name it, we did it. Phil was one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. RIP my good friend. You will be missed!!!! AMEN
