Just found out we lost this great man, and consequently his sweet daughter Sarah! I used to live a couple of houses down from Sarah, went to Lewis & Clark with her - always such a sweet soul and a wonderful family too! Phil's music gave me an appreciation for jazz that I don't think I ever would have had if not for him. Rest in peace - you are greatly missed.

Phil Mattson changed my life. He changed my musical life. And he is not done changing it. He was maybe the best person and best teacher I ever had. I should have followed him to Spokane and beyond, but it will all be well.

Just looked up Phil after a few years, and now must grieve. I’m an appreciative listener essentially but oh how wonderful it was first to discover PM Singers, and then on to the rest! We owe him so much.
