Phillip MOFFITT Obituary

September 22, 1965 - July 4, 2025

Phillip Owen Moffitt, 59, a lifelong resident of Spokane, passed away suddenly on July 4, 2025, at his home.

Phil was born September 22, 1965, in Spokane, Washington, to Vallard Owen Moffitt and Ann Lee Christopher, the eldest of two children. He grew up on the north side of Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1985.

After high school, Phil went into the Navy and was very proud of his service. He worked at Taco Time since he was 16, both on the north side and in the Valley where he worked the drive-through window. He was loved by his coworkers and his customers.

He ran Bloomsday several times in his youth, and he volunteered at both Hoop Fest and Bloomsday. In his later years, he trained hard and lost a lot of weight to successfully run a half marathon. He loved watching football and was a diehard fan of the San Francisco 49ers.

Phil was a kind soul with a great passion for his community and his customers. He was loved and will be missed by many.

Phil is survived by his step-mother, Patricia Moffitt of Federal Way; his step-brother, David Clelland (Greg Posick) of Seattle; his aunt and uncle, Kathy and Philip "Jeff" Kusterer of Lacey; first cousins, Josh (Callie) Hynes of Toronto, Danielle (Jose) Acay of Black Diamond, Kristina (William) Clarke of Lacey, Nicole (Brandon) Larsen of SeaTac, Monique (Jimmy) Weaver of Fayetteville, PA, Barbara (Keith) Yeager of Fannettsburg, PA, Chantelle (Mark) Thomas of Indian Trail, NC; special friends, Greg and Julie Horton; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rebecca Moffitt, his aunts, Lavonne Moffitt, Rita Durham, and Patricia Cullison; uncles, Richard Cullison and Gary Durham; and a first cousin, Michelle Cullison.

A graveside memorial will be arranged later at Pines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Spokane Hoopfest Association.

Earlier today

Phil was absolutely amazing and kind as an individual. Even years after I had worked with him, he was always kind in return. The world is better off with more Phill's around. We need them even more so today. Thanks for being a great example.

Phil came into my life not long after I turned 16 when his dad married my mom in 1990. We had a good relationship over the years, but grew a lot closer as we navigated the decline in health of our parents. Phil was always positive, and he helped as he was able. I could always depend on him. You´re already missed so much, bro.

He is going to be missed by so many that went to Taco Time! Always nice and helpful. We left with a smile, which meant a lot on a day that was hectic and we just wanted comfort food. I´ll cheer for our 49ers extra loud for him.

Phil,
Your morning texts were my favorite, your love for your family was unmeasurable.
You always saw the good in every situation and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
Thank you for being you, a great cousin with so much love.
You were a simple man, with the biggest heart.
Heaven needed you. We miss you.

I remember Phil from our years at the Naval Reserve Center in the late 80´s, early 90´s. My memory of him is a humble, soft spoken guy. He was the kind of person who wouldn´t stand out in a crowd but once you got to know him, you noticed his sweet spirit and laid back personality which belied his quick wit. I used to run into him back in the 90´s and I always enjoyed seeing him, I regret losing touch with him, he was a gem of a man. Heartfelt condolences to family and those who were fortunate enough to know Phil.

Phil was a steady constant in my life from as far back as I can remember. He would run to my parents house while his family drove over, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. When he was a teenager he had a shiny 49ers jacket and I was enamored by his "cool teenager-ness" He was 10years older than me and I thought he hung the moon. When he joined the navy and got a tattoo my jaw just dropped. He was definitely the coolest person alive. His kind soul and love for his family will be so terribly missed. He always had something positive and loving to say. I miss you, Phil. Say hi to the fam for me
