Richard "Dick" Harvey Myers, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 7, 1940, to Warren Myers and Doris Manlet-Myers. Dick was 84 years old.
Later, Dick's father moved to Madison, Wisconsin, and continued to grow his family there after marrying Violet Myers in 1952. Dick graduated from Joliet High School in Madison in 1958 and immediately enlisted in the Army, where he served in Korea from 1958-1961.
After returning from Korea, Dick married Marteal Alford and had two children, Sandra, born in 1963, and Rick, born in 1967. He later reenlisted in the Army, which led to two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his first tour in Vietnam, he was an artillery operator. He then returned to the states in 1971 and attended Flight School, returning for his second tour in Vietnam as a Helicopter Pilot. In 1972, he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.
In the years after his career in the military, Dick opened several businesses including an aquarium shop, "Treasure Trails" coin and metal detecting, and an art gallery.
He met the love of his life, Sheila O'Connor, and they were married in 1982. They welcomed their daughter, Emily, in 1985. Eventually, he went back to school and received a degree in Technical Writing & Communications, from EWU.
From this point on, Dick was immersed in marketing, electronics, and technology for the remainder of his career. Ultimately, leading to the creation of "Auto-Patch" an electronic switching system for AV distribution over IT networks. "Auto-Patch" became a primary product for "XN Technology" and later a division of "AMX Video Control Systems."
During his retirement, Dick enjoyed traveling with Sheila and could NEVER get enough fishing in at his cherished lake getaway at Twin Echo Shores, at Twin Lakes in Rathdrum, Idaho. And as throughout his life, Dick continued to be, a collector of all things "cool."
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Warren "Tom" Myers and Francis Clifton Myers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; daughters, Sandra (Thomas) Peterson and Emily (Eli) Carrasco; son, Rick Myers; sisters, Nancy (Mike) White and Suzi (Shawn) Shaub; brothers, Glenn (Carla) Myers, Steve (Shari) Myers, and Steve (Carol) McCormick; grandchildren, Matt (Kaitlyn) Hamrick, Kandi Hamrick, Heather Wegher, and Dominic and Ella Carrasco; and great-granddaughter, Eleanora Hamrick.
A Celebration of Life, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Heritage Funeral & Cremation (508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224) at 1:00pm with reception to follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers, it would greatly honor Dick's legacy to make donations instead to,
Habitat for Humanity or the American Kidney Fund.
