Robert ROHRSCHEIB Obituary

ROHRSCHEIB, Robert Lee (Age 90) An embodiment of The Greatest Generation, has ended his journey through this life. Bob was born 24 June 1923 in Norwood, Ohio to Mabel Claire Hoopengarner and Walter Lee Rohrscheib. He wed at a young age to Betty Disselcamp and son, George Lee, was born to that union. He was separated from George and Betty when he was drafted into the US Marine Corps during World War II. Bob survived the Battle of Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan; however his young marriage did not survive the separation. He continued his career in the Marine Corps and during his tour at Quantico Marine Base he met and married Naval Corps Wave Betty Jane Megrew. Bob and Betty would embrace many adventures in their 58 years together. Betty kept the home fires burning while Bob continued to serve his country through his deployments during Korea, Vietnam, and numerous training missions overseas. Their first child, Michael, was born in 1954 at Marine Base Camp Pendleton and their daughter Candyce was born four years later in Oceanside, California. In 1966 Bob received orders for his third tour in Southeast Asia and promptly submitted his retirement papers. After leaving his beloved Corps Bob had an 18 year civil service career with the Social Security Administration. It was this position which afforded Bob the opportunity to move his family to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Bob introduced the kids to his passions, fishing and hunting in the local lakes and mountains. As the kids grew, never one to sit on the sidelines, Bob rode motorcycles with Mike and horses with Candy. After retirement, Bob became active in the Pappy Boyington Detachment of the Marine Corps League, holding most League offices, including Commandant. He actively participated each year in Toys For Tots, including the 2013 season. Bob succumbed to metastatic prostrate cancer on 16 June, 2014, just days before his 91st birthday. His ribald humor and lust for laughter echo through the halls of our memory. His wife, Betty, predeceased Bob in 2006 and his daughter-in-law, Leigh, passed in 2012. He is survived by son, George Lee, of Queensland, Australia, his son, Michael, of Spokane, Washington, and his daughter, Candyce, of Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Bob's numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren will keep his memory alive. A memorial service for Bob will be held at 1pm on Sat. June 28, 2014 at ENGLISH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1133 N. 4th St. in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Please visit Bob's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.

A life well lived. A strong personality who received the special Marine Corp injection. A Marine through and through. A wicked sense of humor. How lucky we and Family were to have known you. The Megrew Family misses Betty's poems and your jokes. Together you will always be remembered.
