Ronald McCLOSKEY Obituary

McCLOSKEY, Ronald C.
(Age 77)

Passed away January 12, 2016 in Spokane, WA. Ron was born on January 1, 1939 in Watsonville, CA. He graduated from Watsonville High School in 1956, and from Westmont College in 1960, where he played basketball and met his wife Sharon. Last August they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Ron attended Fuller Seminary where he studied theology but a growing family caused their plans to change. He began his career as a builder/developer in California.
In 1975, the family moved to Spokane, WA where Ron continued his work as a contractor and became active in his church, Northview Bible Church. Following his retirement he continued to be involved with several building projects for local ministries, including Salvation Army, Youth for Christ, Cup of Cool Water, and others.
What brought him the most joy was his large family which grew from a family of six upon their arrival in Spokane to a family of 36 today which includes five great-grandbabies. He was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which was demonstrated by his service and generosity to others.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon; his brother, Gerald (Kay) McCloskey of Los Gatos, California; his four children, Tammie (Ken) Pecka, Natalie Wilkes, Jeff (Sherri) McCloskey and Kathleen (Jason) Hanson; fifteen grandchildren and their spouses; and five great- grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Northview Bible Church, 13521 N. Mill Rd., Spokane, WA, Saturday, January 16, 2016, 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Union Gospel Mission or Youth for Christ.

Our deepest condolences to the McCloskey family. We had the privilege of knowing Ron through business and also while building our home in Ron's development on the north side. His son, Jeff, built our home and we will remember the whole family while enjoying our home still.

"My main contact with Ron was through his dear wife, Sharon, a sincere friend and musician. Sharon enjoyed her gift of music, and I know Ron's encouragement meant lots, as it did to me. He was a man in back of a great woman, as well as she was in back of a great man! His circle of godly influence is a blessing!"

"Mr. McCloskey" and all of the McCloskey family will be forever remembered by me as wonderful, fun-loving, Godly, sincere, welcoming and dear friends. When we moved to Spokane in 1978, you all were there as ones who encouraged, helped, befriended and opened your lives to our family. After all these years, Ron's legacy to me is his integrity, generosity, gentleness, friendliness, honesty and interest in the lives of others. We grieve his passing from your lives and ours. We rejoice in the solid hope we have that he is with the Lord and we will rejoice and glorify the Lord together again someday. Love, thoughts and prayers for peace and healing are with you all during these difficult days. Thank you for who you are.

When Ron Stepped into the arms of Jesus on January 12, he was greeted with, "Well done, good and faithful servant." He was such an example of loving Christian charity. His unfailing support of Youth for Christ was invaluable to my son, Tom Davis. Tom was the Spokane area director when he and Ron conceived and built the Youth for Christ center in Hillyard. As a direct result of his ministry to the kids of Hillyard, they have a beautiful, safe place to gather and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Ron's legacy will live on, but he is, and will always be, greatly missed.

My sincere sympathy to the family. Ron was a dear friend of my Dad, Jim Pooley, and he spoke highly of Ron and his friendship meant a great deal to my dad. My Dad died on 12/14/15 and he had been asking to talk to Ron in his last days. We tried to get a phone number but weren't able to find one. I guess they are catching up in heaven now. Maybe even shooting hoops in heaven. I guess we are all grieving the loss of our dads now. Thoughts and Prayers, Annette Pooley

Sharon, Kathleen, Jason and the entire Family,
I am so sorry for your tremendous loss!
Ron was a great man of God!
An amazing example to us all of what it means to use our gifts for building the Kingdom of God!
A man of impeccable integrity!
A Man who Loved Jesus!
Ron was a Barnabas to me personally, always encouraging me along life's journey... Never a hint of judgement... A man who possessed an amazing ability to take in information and graciously layout a Godly effective and efficient formula to keep moving forward in a positive fashion!
I will miss our annual trips to Panera where i had the privilege to sit for hours at a time listening to Ron recount his life and times with the love of his life Sharon and then he would systematically go through each of his children and their spouses and then each grandchild! I enjoyed marveling at how this hard working talented man loved all of his family so deeply and could not have been more proud of each one!
There is no question Ron made this world a better place for so many!
I will miss my friend deeply!
I am a better person for having known Ron McCloskey!
In the words of the Apostle Paul " I thank my God upon every rememberance of you" Phil 1:3
