Royal CUSHMAN Obituary

January 14, 1942 - September 11, 2024

Wakefield - Royal went home to be with the Lord on September 11. Born and raised in Vermont, Royal came to Spokane in 1961 with the U.S. Airforce. He was employed for several years in the grocery industry and developed lifelong friendships with many coworkers and customers. After retiring from Fred Meyer, he relocated to Massachusetts. Royal had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed league bowling, golfing, rooting for his favorite tennis players, karaoke, and fishing for steelhead on the Snake River. Royal is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughters, Joan (Greg) Cossette and Karen (Todd) George; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

I am so sorry to hear of Royal passing. He was a great friend and provided so many great meals, fun, and laughter. He even spent one of my Birthday dinners with me;)

Royal and I worked together for many years at Excell Foods. What a great guy! We were all part of a big family at the store and Royal was the first one to be there for anyone who needed help or encouragement. And practical jokes! He was the master. There are so many good memories and good times shared with him. My deepest sympathy to Joyce and the rest of the family. He will be missed by his many friends in Spokane.

My condolences to the family. Very sad to hear of his passing. I got to know Royal when he shopped at Shaws Supermarket where I work. Had several conversations over the years, mostly about our cats and family. Which he clearly loved dearly! May he rest in peace.
