Dr. Brown was the best Vet that we had ever had for our dogs - Dragon and Zelda. Dragon passed last October and Dr Brown was very compassionate when he heard about him being so sick.
Dr Brown was a very kind soul and a special human being. We will miss him forever! Our hearts are with his family and Staff at Indian Trail Hospital. We hope they are going to continue his legacy.

It is with broken hearts that we extend out sympathy to Dr. Brown's family, friends and colleagues. May God comfort you. Dr. Brown was the kindest most gentleman with a smile that will never be forgotten. Our grief is overwhelming. The compassion and excellent care he provided to our four dogs will never be forgotten. He was a miracle to our little girl and with two TPLO surgeries she walks today like she should. She is going strong now at fourteen. I will never forget his excitement at our recent adoption of our Karilean Bear dog since he had one previously as well. I will always remember his hello's by each name to our furry kids. He treated them like his own. We weren't aware of Dr. Browns's passing until after the memorial. We will never forget Ryan and always hold a place in our heart for him. With deepest sympathy,
Bo & Kathie Cummings
Your furry patient's and friends Chante, Cheyenne, Poi, and Scooch
We will miss you forever!!!!

We are at a loss for words as we just heard about Dr Brown. Our hearts go out to his family. We followed him from the North Division Clinic to his Indian Trail Clinic because of his compassion and care towards our "girls". The first time we met him he just plunked himself right there on the floor with our herd of Springer Spaniels. He will be missed but not forgotten.

My heart goes out to Dr. Brown's family, friends, and colleagues. So very sorry....

May God be with you.

Dr. Brown will be missed so very, very much. He was a very kind, compassionate, and loving person. Every time I saw him, he had a huge smile on his face and that smile lit up a room when he entered it. His vision was to create a veterinary hospital that not only would help or cure the physical pain of our pets, but to calm their inner souls and to not be afraid. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and co-workers.

April 16, 2018

I only knew you as a Dr. to take care of my Dogs. You had such compassion that I knew you would be my Vet. forever. My prayers go out to your family at this time of loss. I know there are no words that I can give you at this time, and for that I am so sorry.

April 16, 2018

We write this in loving memory of Dr. Brown who was the epitome of kindness and compassion with each of our beloved pets and with us when we needed his care and advice. He treated each one when they were ill or just in need of a check up, and gently helped us say farewell when it was time. We will miss his gentle touch and knowledgeable advice, his calls to check on progress after each visit, and especially his warm smile and encouraging words. We wish healing and comfort for his family in the difficult days ahead.

Oh, my dearest Dr. Brown, how do I say all that I feel? We just had to send Miss Molly to Heaven on Friday, April 6, and left on vacation on April 8, just returned late last night and discovered that Miss Molly was in Heaven for your arrival. What a shock, no wonder I cried so had on Monday, April 9!!! I thought our hearts were just so heavy losing Molly, but not only that, our dear Dr.Brown returned home. When I first came to Spokane in 2003, no one would day board my Black Cocker, Kari-Boo. She had pancreatitis, and could not be left alone while I was at work. I lived in Qualchan and drove out to North Division every morning, left her in Dr. Brown's care and picked her up every night. When it was time for hr to go to Heaven, Dr. Brown hugged me and cried with me. He held us when Emma Sue had to go be an angel and then Grazia and now Molly and all of his other wonderful pets we all have trusted him with are together. We moved to Post Falls and have still traveled to Indian Trails for the loving care and concern Dr. Brown's "family" have gifted to all of us. I want to send our most sincere care and love to Mrs. Brown, her children and all the family. You must always know that Dr. Brown was the most loved and respected gentleman I have ever had the gift to know. We will see you there with all your smiles and love when it is our time. We will be going out to Indian Trails to pick up Miss Molly's remains today and will give everyone there our love and condolences from the bottom of our souls. Love Karen & Rusty Walker

Dr. Brown you will be missed. You treated each animal and their people with kindness and compassion. Dr Brown cared for my chihuahua Rosie for over 16 years, and when it was time for her to rest in peace he truly amazed me with his tenderness and understanding. I didn't feel I could face putting her down but Dr. Brown helped me to understand and to know in my heart that she would rest peacefully and without pain. I will never forget this and never forget his companionate soul.

Ryan, there are no words that adequately describe the sorrow and disbelief. You were a great friend, an incredibly intelligent, compassionate, and intuitive veterinarian, and one of the kindest and gentlest people I have ever known. Your legacy will live in the thousands of lives, both human and animal, that you touched in your too-short time with us. You made all of us better veterinarians and better people. This world was a brighter place with you in it. We will miss you.

April 14, 2018

We met Ryan when he was fresh out of school. We had several dogs and a cat. My DIL talked me into going to the shelter, because they wanted a dog. I have a very hard time with shelters. I made her promise not to let me look into anyone's eyes. We had enough dogs! I came home with Ellie. She had 6 different types of infection in her ears and a noticeable limp. In fact, she was unable to use her rt hind leg. It was curled up all the time. We took her to Ryan and found out she had been shot in the left hip, the bullet still there, and no hip socket on the right. He told us there was a surgery that wouldn't fix it, but would take away the pain. I said, when can you do it. His face turned bright red and he said "oh I've never done it, I've just observed it." I repeated my question. He assured we would be better off with someone with more experience. I told him if he didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. And he didn't need any help, it would be fine. He was SO scared. But he did it. We took Ellie home and she would not put that leg down or bear any weight for 3 weeks. We thought, well that was a bust. One day she was in the house with the other kids and turned wrong and automatically put the hind leg down. We watched as she stood there. You could see the wheels turning in her head I swear. She was not a young dog and that hip had hurt her whole life. She took a few tentative steps. Then went outside and started running around the yard like a pup. Ryan said she will have a limp, but it won't be painful. He had called several times to see how she was doing. "well, she's great except she won't put that leg down." I called and made an appt. I took her in and asked if I could see Ryan for just a second. He came out a few minutes later. I was across the entire office and I said, call her. Call her to you. BTW, she hated men, she loved my husband and Ryan and that was it. He squatted down and said in that soft voice he always had, c'mere Ellie. She took off to him on all four legs..with NO limp at all. The look on his face, I will never forget. I walked over and leaned down and said you are going to be a most excellent ortho surgeon. He just smiled that big smile of his. Ellie only lived a couple more years, but they were pain free. I was once crying after we lost a baby and said why don't we ever get a healthy dog? He said he felt that God picked special people to help with the most special dogs. I asked him to ask God to make us not special..it was too hard. Then we laughed a little. Over the following years he saved many animals for us, and helped us ease many home. Always kind and gentle, even when it hurt so much, I couldn't bear it. He gave me a hug every time we saw him. I know there are a thousand stories out there everyone could tell. But I felt I just wanted to say how we saw him blossom from a total newbie to the best vet we ever knew, with the greatest staff ever and when he told us Keri was joining him...well, that just sealed it. We moved to Idaho and still came to Spokane because we never had to worry about the care our kids would get. My heart breaks for you, Mrs. Brown and for the boys. I know from the way he talked about you, you really were his universe. He left suddenly and too soon. My prayers and thoughts are with you, always. May God give you peace and comfort for the things we just have no control over. Debbie and Dave Henrie

Dr Ryan was just so wonderful with our animals. He understood completely what our pets mean to us as immigrants to the USA with no family here. He was an amazing human being and we shall never forget his skill as a vetinarian and his kindness. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

April 14, 2018

This incredible man has been a part of our family for almost 20 years. He was an angel on earth. We completely trusted him with our babies and never ever steered wrong. I have never seen a more caring, compassionate and loving person. He "makes" you want to be a better person. He laughed when we laughed and cried when we had to cry. There will never be another Dr. Brown. We miss you and will NEVER EVER forget what you have done for us and our babies. Heaven is surely shining now. God bless you, your family and your staff.

We were referred to Dr. Brown over 16 years ago by Pat Benstine, founder of Washington Bassett Rescue. She described him as having a "sixth sense" with animals. We found that to be very true. He was such a kind and gentle man. This is a huge loss for everyone that knew him.

Dr. Brown was a very special person & one of a kind! Blessings to his family during this difficult time.

April 13, 2018

Ryan has been considered a huge part of our family for about 20 years. My husband and I have had many pets in those years we live in the country so we can have up to 6 dogs at a time plus cats. most of them rescues.Ryan helped with each and everyone of them. Saving lives by having the skillset to repair their legs.Taking a pet to Ryan you knew you were getting the best there was between his kindness and medical knowledge.Ryan was always as happy as I was when he would here each animals rescue story and that they were now safe, you always felt like you were talking to your brother a kindred spirit. He felt your pain and your joy.Last November Ryan had to put an elderly cat to sleep for me. I told him about a pastor one of my clients knew that had passed away for 25 minutes but the doctors were able to bring him back. I asked my client if he got to see heaven he said yes. he told me he seen and heard colors and music that was nothing like earth and that he had and overwhelming sense of love joy peace and happiness. I asked my client if Jesus showed him anything else he said yes. He was surrounded by animals and he could talk to them and (they could talk back to him).He also could understand the trees and the plants and the music came from them. When I finished the story Ryan just had a big smile on his face. My last words to him was a hug and telling him I hope you know you are the best because you are. Of coarse he was very humble with that comment.Because Ryan is certainly is the best and always will be.I cannot express that our hearts are forever broken at this loss, but I draw comfort from the story that my client told me about his pastor. So I know Ryan is in heaven right now surrounded by peace, love and happiness talking to animals and all the ones he personally helped through there journey here till they were called to go home.So he is now caring for all my kids that were waiting to greet him when he arrived home. Deepest Deepest sympathy to Mrs. Brown and the boys for your loss. Sherrie and Todd Martin

It is a rare individual who can make each person with whom he crosses paths be made to feel like they are, at least at that moment in time, the most important priority in his life. Imagine all the animals Dr. Ryan saw on a daily basis, year in and year out. Somehow though, whenever I took my Bella into him, he made me believe we had 100% of his attention, education, experience, and compassion for our visits. Without fail, he would personally call our home for a follow-up to ensure we were on the right path for my girl with chronic health issues. When it came time to allow her to pass, Dr. Ryan was unbelievably gentle and compassionate for the procedure, as I, a grown man, wept without shame. Dr. Ryan will be missed beyond comprehension in his calling to help God's creatures. I cannot imagine how missed he will be as a friend and loved one to those who were priveledged to know him on those levels. My heart pains for your pain. May God grant you eternal peace, and if Heaven is how I like to imagine, may all the animals you helped over the years be there to greet you, speaking a heavenly, universal language! May those who you loved and loved you be there to welcome you with open arms. May He, our Creator and Father, grant you eternal peace and a mansion of gold while you wait for your loved ones. God bless you, Dr. Ryan. You were loved and admired by the countless many whose lives you so caringly and genuinely touched.

It seems surreal that you are gone. You were without a doubt the best of the best. I wish it weren't true for many reasons but mostly for your family. God is in control, and I hope you found peace. We love you Dr. Brown. I can only imagine the welcoming you had by all the pets you cared for. See you on the other side.

We are stunned! He touched so many people, gave so many hope for their 4 legged family members. He did so much good. Just don't know what else to say... heart broken.

No words. So sad. What an amazing man. Honored to have known him. May the legacy he created be furthered by those he mentored. May you be greeted by all the animals you cared for and loved like your own.

As a colleague, Ryan seemed like such an amazing guy. He welcomed me and a group of veterinary students into his hospital so that I could use his practice to teach our student colleagues about practice management and business operations. The group he had gathered together was seemingly outstanding and clearly a reflection of his values and philosophy. I can't believe he is no longer with us. Rest peacefully my colleague. Prayers for you, your family and your teammates at Indian Trail.

Our hearts are broken. Dr. Brown was an amazing man. Having been to see him just 2 short weeks ago, he was down on the ground playing with our Big Boxer. He was so kind and loved playing with Tinner. When finding out today that he passed, our hearts just sank. Prayers to his family, wife & children. Along with his work family at Indian Trail. May our good Lord & father wrap his arms around all of you during this difficult time. Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Dr. Brown you will be greatly missed. Just so sad...

Ryan was an exceptional doctor, but even more so an exceptional person. Funny, talented, kind, and so smart, he always took a moment to help when we new vet school grads needed it at my very first job at North Division. He was the doctor we wanted to someday be like (and still do) and well never forget him.
Ryans love and adoration for his family were always evident, and Colette, Thomas, and Christopher very clearly topped his priorities. You will all be in my familys thoughts and prayers for a long time to come, and every time I remember Ryan.

Dr Brown will be sorely missed. He seemed like part of our family. He was a loving, caring person who understood us and our dogs. He was always honest and open and helped us through many touch decisions. We will miss his smiling face and sense of humor. Blessings to his family and all his friends.

Colette and Boys,
My family sends the deepest sympathy for your loss. Ryan was a wonderful, loving father and an amazing vet. He took such great care of my dad's basset hound after many of his crazy shenanigans. We enjoyed his fun-loving spirit and admired his pride while talking about his boys and beautiful wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly.
