THOMPSON, Selmer E. "Bucky" (Age78) Passed away on January 1, 2010. He was born November 9, 1931 and raised in Weston, Oregon in the Blue Mountains. He graduated from Weston H.S. as Valedictorian of the class of 1948. Bucky began his nearly 40 year career with Seafirst Bank (Bank of America) right out of high school in Walla Walla, WA. While working for the bank he attended Whitman College in Walla Walla and graduated from the University of Washington in 1959. He was a devoted "Husky" until his last days. Bucky held many responsibilities at Seafirst and in addition to Walla Walla, worked in the Seattle area, Spokane and Wenatchee. He hired and was a mentor to many current day Bank of America associates and retirees. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Kaskaskia (fleet tanker). During this time Bucky met Sandy, his bride of 54 years. Bucky was involved in many community activities including Exchange Club, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and the Valley Hospital and Medical Center Foundation. He was also a director on the Central Valley School Board for six years. Bucky was very active in his church life and most recently served on the Finance & Administration committee at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. He loved playing golf, bridge and many do-it yourself projects but the thing that brought him the most pleasure during his retirement was participating as a spectator in his grandchildren's many athletic, dance and musical activities. He was their number one cheerleader. Bucky was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Bucky was always so great to me and my children throughout the years at Hamblen Park Presbyterian. Bucky supervised the acolytes when my twins were acolytes at the church. He will be missed.
