Shane REILLY Obituary

April 10, 1984 - September 15, 2024

Shane was an adventurer. He loved the outdoors. An Eagle Scout at 16, Shane enjoyed 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, camping, etc. On March 5, 2011, Shane was injured in a random act of violence. Against all odds, Shane survived a gunshot to the head.

He accepted his fate with incredible grace; and after several months at two hospitals and a rehab facility, he was released to go home. Now, as an incomplete quadriplegic, his wheelchair and van were his major sources of transportation. After about six years with family, he went to live at St. Joseph's Nursing Facility where he became the unofficial greeter for new patients. He would sit with them even if they just needed somebody to talk to and show them the ropes. Shane stayed with them until they were comfortable. Then, this past spring, he moved to a group home, where he made some new friends. He was happy there and took many long country drives with his dad.

On September 15, 2024, Shane finished his daily comms to family and friends, with little indication that he wasn't feeling well. He had lunch and went outside to take his afternoon nap in the sunshine. Shane tipped his wheelchair back to his favorite position, giving him a view of Mt. Spokane and fell asleep peacefully after 13+ bonus years, never to wake again.

Shane is survived by his parents, Richard and Julie Reilly, Linda Reilly; his sister, Kelsey Reilly; stepbrothers, Tom (Sarah, Ryan, Annemarie and Aaron), Daniel and TJ McKeever; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. MAY HE REST IN PEACE!

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 2, at the Windsor Grange, 4417 S. Assembly Road, at 2pm.

Rich, Julie, Kelsey and Linda, we were all saddened to hear of Shane's passing. He was a part of our family here at PSJCC for many years and will be dearly missed. He was funny, driven and sincere. He always watched out for his caregivers and fellow residents. I hold tight the many memories we and I have of him. May your family be blessed and know he made a difference in so many peoples' lives. God bless.

Linda and Kelsey,

Shane made my time working at St.Joes so much more enjoyable. He brought laughter and a pain in the rear to every shift! I loved being able to get to know you all and cooper! I think of the four of you often! Shane is an incredible example of being able to find contentment and happiness in any situation. He brought joy to staff and other patients alike! You are all in my prayers! I just know he is up there with his dog doing all the crazy things he missed!

My deepest sympathies. I was fortunate to know Shane while I was recovering at St. Joseph. He was so kind and compassionate. We were wheelchair buddies and sometimes he'd pull me down the hallway, which didn't go over well with the staff. We'd sit outside talking for hours. He helped me through one of the worst times of my life. I loved him like a brother. I have no doubt he's walking with the angels and making them laugh. He had a wicked sense of humor. I will never forget what he did for me and I will miss him forever. Rest in peace bubba.
